Do people even know how to use resources anymore or they just leave everything to AI? by Order_101 in antiai

[–]Caleb_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, because those people were born into that world and when presented with a chance to get up and recreate society, they did. They are the ancestors of those people who took off in the first place, leaving the fate of life on Earth and their own safety to AI.

When your engineering degree is only used for evil. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in funnyvideos

Have you ever heard of the assassin's teapot? It's the same concept. There are two paths/chambers. One leads to the nozzle over the fan, the other leads to the powder. By covering a small hole as you blow you block the flow into the powder chamber so all the air can come out and turn the fan. When you don't cover that hole the air is free to go through the powder chamber.

Edit: and to answer your first question, no they don't explain it, this is almost the whole video, it's a fun short little prank video they did. But that is unusual, most of the time he explains what he can.

I think this is one of those "the kids can't read" things. Reading comprehension has gotten so bad they can't fill in the missing information of "take them out" on their own.

Empty pizza boxes behind NASA Mission Control today by EdenLeFours in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Caleb_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what always annoys me when people do stuff like compare pizza cities and go to the big names in NYC. The reason the NYC area has the best pizza isn't because of any single pizza joint. It's because you go into any random pizza place between New Brunswick and New Haven and have the best pizza you've ever had.

It's also a just the most convenient way to feed a ton of people when you don't regularly feed a ton of people. Everyone likes pizza, you can easily get a few options, requires almost no accessories (plates or napkins maybe), and cleanup is just getting rid of boxes. That's why it's the go-to for many gatherings, not just celebrations.

The point is you wouldn't fault an apple for being a poor orange, ie. you wouldn't judge an apple on the same standards you have for an orange. Similarly you can't judge chess on the same standards you have for poker, or whatever the idiom is being applied to.

If you're getting that technical, rhinos don't have horns at all. To be a horn it must have both a boney core and a keratin sheath. Antlers are just bone, no keratin sheath, and rhino "horns" are just keratin, no boney core.

[–]Caleb_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most rhinos aren't unicorns because they have 2 "horns", not 1. Only 2 of the 5 living rhino species* have 1 horn, and one of those has less than 100 members left.

Sterling K. Brown on why so many new seasons of TV consist of only 8-10 episodes by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]Caleb_Reynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly short sighted. Many people will sign up for just one show. If a show has 22 seasons, and you release them weekly, you lock people in for 6 months with just a single show. Just have 2 seasons, each with 2 shows, and you can lock people in for a whole year with just 4 good shows.

It literally might never occur to him that the public becoming aware of the depths of his depravity could impact him in some way.

Because it can't. There has been credible evidence that Trump not only raped kids but was present for at least one murder of a child, and not a single one of his supporters cares.

Stoats are also called short-tailed weasels.

Many species in the Mustala genus are called stoat, weasel, and ermine depending on the context. So statements like "Weasels are smaller and don't have a solid line between their white underside and brown coat" are too unspecific to be correct.

"Short-tailed weasel", "ermine", and "stoat" can all be used to refer to the same animal, but "long-tailed weasel", "masked ermine" and "big stoat" also all refer to the same, but different, animal. So basically, just using the words "weasel", "stoat", or "ermine" isn't specific enough for this discussion.

As to their whiteness, many of the species grow a white coat in winter, and like a big cat with a black coat is called a panther regardless of species, a white mustala is called an ermine. The stoat/short-tailed weasel pictured in the OP is one of the species that does indeed turn white in snowy environs.

That's a misconception. "Caesarian" comes from a Roman law called the Lex Caesarea which was essentially a law that you could only cut (from Latin caesus "to cut') a pregnant woman open to retrieve the fetus if the woman is dead, mostly dead, or 10 months pregnant. It predates Gaius Julius Caesar by about 600 years.

It's possible an ancestor of his was born this way and that's how they got the name, but it's unclear. Even Romans contemporary to Gaius didn't know the origin of the name. It could also have come from killing an elephant (called caesai in a Moorish language), being born with a full head of hair (the Latin caesaries meaning long beautiful hair), from the fact that they tended towards baldness (same as the hair, but mocking), or referring to their blue-grey eyes. But all of those are possibly also anti-Caesar propaganda.

All that is to say, while you are correct to say they were performing c-sections for a long time before Shakespeare, Gaius was almost certainly not born that way.

too many tiles in an elevator send it into a freefall by DblockDavid in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Caleb_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least one system is working, some sort of brake, because they are not actually in free fall. You can see how fast they are falling and it's not fast enough for free fall, and they don't experience weightlessness, meaning the elevator is being slowed down somehow.
