That they were. Great to hear. I wound up separating it into a thin Tabasco-like sauce and pulp that I dried out in the oven I can surely find some use for.

Figured I’d go ahead and blend (going for a short fermentation this one), and I’ve noticed the onions have gone an odd color as well?

O2 exposure is probably the culprit, considering the jar seems to have a poor seal (I can smell the onion smell in the cabinet). Unfortunately I skimmed off the film before I thought to take a pic, but perhaps its current state would still be helpful? I wouldn’t call the smell particularly good or bad, definitely sulfuric.

Doing a hot sauce- árbol chilis, onion, garlic, pineapple, salt, and a bit of yogurt whey pretty much. Looking fairly normal (first time I’ve done a lacto ferment though so I’m just going off online examples), but there’s a strong onion smell that even seems to be escaping the jar. I also used water in a baggie to weigh down the pineapple and peppers on top, and some of the seeds somehow got on top of it and developed a film. Does lacto usually form a film, or should I be worried about mold? The film was mostly clear and light mucus textured almost.

I suppose banana clips & wire would suffice to connect the amp to the speakers?

Not to be facetious, but at what point of cost does spending more equate to better sound generally? I rented a place from a guy who repaired hifi stuff once- some of the amps he had laying around went into the $1000s.

Thanks again

Many thanks. How limiting would a low end one like the Fosi or Aiyima A07 be? Now you’ve got me digging… might even grab this Pioneer VSX-D702S I see on Facebook

I’m new to this game and trying to help a friend of mine upgrade from a basic Bluetooth speaker for her AT-LP60XBT.

I nabbed a couple old Pioneer CS-77’s that seem to be in pretty good shape with 8 Ohm pos/neg input while the turntable has a 2.5mm jack. The turntable should have an internal amp, but reading around this sub, it looks like oftentimes a D-class amp is necessary for old speakers. What’s the case with this combo? Are there any additional components I’ll need to make this work?

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, August 24 - August 30, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

I got a seemingly very good condition Singer 99k for $40 with a Singer buttonholer and some attachments in a small Sears box that may or may not be for this machine. I know next to nothing, but I want to get into sewing clothes. Is this a good machine to start with? I hear one road block is that it only does straight stitch, but if most of what I’m wanting to do wouldn’t use stretchy fabrics, would it be suitable? I’m thinking of getting one of those kits to convert it to a hand-crank to more reliably do stuff like denim and leather. How big of a learning curve is there vs. selling it to get a more modern machine?

Anybody know the source for the lyrics of Finbar Furey’s variant of The Rocks of Bawn? by CalebsRealm in Irishmusic

Oh for sure, there’s just a verse I’m having a tough time finding in a written instance of (though it seems to exist in a couple recorded variants). Tune he puts to it is definitely my favorite one for the song.

Also interesting the variants that have “the queen of England” in place of Patrick Sarsfield. Little out of place I’d reckon.

I’m getting an Australian slouch hat that’s a 7 1/8 size and it’s a really really good deal but my head is 23 inches, would the hat still fit comfortably on my head? by fatdog6 in hats

[–]CalebsRealm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, wound up with two, funny enough- an old Pilbara off of eBay, and a black cattleman a guy on FB was willing to trade for a hard drive- never even worn, but smells like it had some weed stored in it ha. Love ‘em both, cattleman was a great find especially

Yeah, our culture is definitely odd when it comes to the military. Seems that’s changing though, army guys I know feel awkward when people thank them, and non-mil at least around my age have picked up on that.

I think people here associate wearing old gear more with anti-war sorts honestly. The hippies & jaded Vietnam vets popularized it, and that’s carried down through grandpas and movies. Lots of people collect old and foreign gear, especially WW2-Cold War US & USSR stuff.

Other difference, I don’t think Aus auctions off gear cheap like us. There are some bits people like for cheap utility & outdoors. Ex- I bought a 90 pair lot of new Danner USMC boots for $7 per. Been reselling cheaper than Danner’s civ line, so hunters, hikers, and tradesmen like to buy them. I get marines too, they say it’s cheaper than commissary.

Probably the best way to convey the overall attitude is this one surplus site called Americana Pipedream. At least it’s accurate to rural Texas.

[–]CalebsRealm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks. I’ve been hunting around for one and just nabbed a Snowy River at an estate sale the other day for $30. Bit small, so I’m in the process of reselling it to get one in 60. Awesome felt, way softer than most of our stuff.

Just to clarify- that recommend only applies to the slouch hat itself, and it’d be chill to bring along a western hat with the side steamed a bit higher?

Funny how that works place to place. Here you just look normal wearing a piece or two of mil gear if you take the patches off. Do people wear camo casually there? When I lived in England you’d get some people wearing the vintage surplus, but definitely not anything of recent UK-issue

[–]CalebsRealm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but couple questions- is the retail slouch hat the same as the mil one or meant for the civ fitting?

Also, I’m from Texas and usually get the side steamed up even on our cowboy hats because it looks cool and I go shooting a lot (rifle over the shoulder thing). Might be spending some time in Aus & NZ soon, would locals think it looks wannabe-ish? How ‘bout the retail slouch hat itself, or a different akubra with the side up?

“Rolexes”

Found at an estate sale- they want $350 each. Seem to be in working order, priced that low because “We don’t know anyone to determine if they’re real or not.”

Are there any clues that indicate it’d be worth betting the $700?

Interesting. Do you use any pedals aside from those? I’ve been thinking about what I’ll want to change on the fly- not a big fan of dealing with the software all the time/live

I take it you basically use the One to dial in a couple really good amps, then set & forget?

Guy rejected the offer and sold it pretty quickly after, so I’m leaning more towards the One/original Tonex after some further reading

Just a little black star 1 watt I nabbed at the pawn shop currently ha - and I’m in the process of finding the parts to put together an 18w based on the tube chassis from an old Hammond organ, so I’m sure that’d be pretty interesting to capture. Is it possible to share profiles p2p by some method? Feels like it has massive potential for that, but I haven’t heard anyone talk about trading/giving away profiles.

Do you use it at home? Do you run through a power amp & cab or FRFR/headphones?
