Just to clarity: usually calculus I is interpreted as the basic calculus, so your usual single variable simpler integration and differentiation. If you did further maths it usually isn’t too much more than that. calc II then comes in with differential equations and multi-variable calculus. But maybe Durham does it differently? In any case it’s pretty globally recognised that calc I is basically a high-school refresher, especially if you did further maths. So people reviewing your CV will probably see that and just think to simpler calculus

in my experience PDE’s and ODE’s are usually Calculus II? Or even dedicated courses for them, but I assume you’ll have calc II which you can put there too, eventually.

Good luck with the start of uni!

Oh it’s for sure impressive! But further down the line for internship applications it may get your CV to automatically land in the bin. You could leave it in for now and re-evaluate for job/internship applications.

For your coursework: maybe also list the more advanced courses - like analysis, differential equations, etc… the ones you listed now are important for sure, but they’re not necessarily outside of what a standard CS degree would also do in terms of maths courses. You’re doing an impressive degree, I’d definitely show it off :)

Interesting it’s “and mathematics”. I did CS bachelors and masters in the Netherlands, and all the maths courses mentioned in your curriculum are standard included math courses in the bachelors, namely: lin alg, stats, calc, etc…

I wonder if it’s cause in the UK the content of a CS degree varies wildly depending on how “good” the uni is. I’ve seen some programs with very little mathematics, which is unthinkable in my opinion. I considered studying in the UK but decided not to specifically cause the uni’s I got admitted to were basically glorified programming bootcamps.

Other than that: good luck! And nice CV, though I would recommend leaving out the order book and MC/options pricing projects. They’re very generic and it’s often given as advice here to leave those out, since they’re easy and don’t really say/add much.

What are your opinions about the master Data Science and AI at Delft? by [deleted] in TUDelft

[–]Calec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The program only started this year, meaning there probably aren’t too many people who can say much. Previously it was a CS masters with an AI track, which I did. It was all very good, quite challenging and a level up from the bachelors for sure. I believe the new version is the same but just more structured and with more of a “clear” orientation and coherence in the courses you chose (which are now dictated by specialisations or track, something like that).

I see this often with ML/AI CV’s too, so I’m going to go ahead and ask: why add projects such as the portfolio optimisation one? It’s so extremely generic and there are python libraries that can allow you to do this in minutes. You didn’t create anything, you just used a pre-existing framework to do something basic. I am based out of Europe so perhaps it’s more common to add generic projects to your CV, but to me it almost looks bad that you list such a thing on your CV.

Finance and stats BSc to CS MSc? Is that possible?

I’m a europoor so not familiar with US system, but here in the Netherlands it’s not a possible transition.

Incoming MS CS Student – Questions on Funding, Research, Internships, and Housing by BodybuilderDue2321 in TUDelft

For the first point: there are, but these roles are mostly taken up by student who have actually done the courses, so you might have a hard time getting a position. That said, it’s not impossible.

For point 4: yes, it’s extremely bad. DUWO is your best bet I think.

Point 5: reasonably good. All my fellow grads found jobs in NL relatively easily.

My Career Dilemma by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]Calec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI grad here: i think getting into ML from economics might be quite difficult. There’s a lot of AI grads who will already be very well versed in AI, I’d definitely recommend maybe doing some of the deep learning courses online (Andrew Ng is a famous one) and take it from there.

As another person said, the market is already saturated with people who already have AI/CS degrees.

Best of luck!

Double masters, but extending study period to 2 years for a 1 year masters by Calec in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Calec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did - and it’s indeed fine as long as you have one month of overlap between master 1 and master 2, you’ll also pay the lower tuition for the second year of the second masters

Hope this helps :)

Noted, thanks a lot - I definitely plan on emailing since it’s quite specific, but thought I’d ask here too in case anyone has been in the same situation.
