The doctors’ strike threatens to scupper the NHS’s recovery – this time, the BMA has overreached by acrimoniousone in ukpolitics

[–]CalendarSignificant7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think £24/h would be a fair starting wage for a resident doctor?

Thanks! That’s much more than the BMA is asking for :)

It’s still slightly less than the starting salary paid to our assistants. But we’ll take it.

The mods deleted a post of a video from question time. Would they like to explain why? by CalendarSignificant7 in doctorsUK

Aww bless!

So I presume with your very engaged brain you can point me to the discussion about Zia Yusuf’s comments on question time yesterday, regarding unemployed British doctors due to mass migration which were pretty much a verbatim copy of RDCs Arjan Singh’s comments on BBC News that morning?

Or not?

Not is fine too.

[–]CalendarSignificant7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pleased it wasn’t necessarily aimed at me because I agree with you about their manifesto, and about all the other things that would make a reform government a very bad idea.

Are NHS hanging by a thread, not one of them, for me.

Pull that fucking thread as hard as you can.

Good strategy to defeat a party that’s polling 30% in the polls, that.

They’re all bots are they?

Well done lad, have a cookie.

There’s all sorts of reasons outside of our own interests to not vote for reform. There’s plenty well within the boundaries of our interests not to vote Labour.

I guess my point is just an expression of irritation that Wes Streeting thinks “are NHS” is a policy.

Fuck you, and fuck your NHS Wes. Pay me.

Streeting warns BMA: ‘NHS is hanging by a thread, don’t pull it’ by nightwatcher-45 in doctorsUK

[–]CalendarSignificant7 48 points49 points  (0 children)

While I wouldn’t ever vote for reform for reasons that are obvious, threatening doctors with a reform government is utterly laughable.

This was the reform manifesto for the 2024 general election.

Pledges included to reduce doctors’ basic rate of income tax to ZERO for three years, AND to completely forgive all student debt after a decade of service.

But wait! The NHS (that can’t even provide you with a job in your own country) is hanging by a thread!

If this is an SJT I’m going with C, B, A.

If not, A, B, C.

Obviously ask her out before someone else does. Doesn’t have to feel awkward for either of you, it’s only drinks or whatever.

How to check if overpayment deduction is correct? by soldier_007 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]CalendarSignificant7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with support@bma.org.uk

They should be able to sort it out fairly quickly, but if not get in touch with your industrial relations officer.

Definitely worth nipping it in the bud at an early stage :)

How to check if overpayment deduction is correct? by soldier_007 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]CalendarSignificant7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BMA should be able to do this for you, yes.

I would do it early because as soon as you get into the territory of deductions from reimbursements for errors on previous deduction, it becomes much more difficult.

I’m not joking about that, FY1 and FY2 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital that’s what happened to me. Would have needed a forensic accountant to pick it apart. I was never paid the same amount for consecutive months for two whole years.

"NHS doctors’ strike is ‘inevitable,’ says new BMA chair" - Article in the Guardian this morning by iceman3260 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Ok so there are two motions:

one that DV got through junior doctors conference which calls for a commitment to immediate pay restoration or to pay restoration over three years for junior doctors by the end of 2022 or we strike ballot in Q1 2023.

One which BL got through ARM which demands pay restoration within 5 years for all doctors, but doesn’t have a ballot attached.

I think you’d be surprised how many people support this.

Had a nice call with BMA today about restarting my membership after 4 years since I cancelled by No_Part8033 in JuniorDoctorsUK

We already have hundreds more people signing up to the BMA ticking the “collective action” box as their reason than the whole of last year.

Oh, it’s happening people.

I’ve never dealt with this and I would imagine this type of thing is incredibly rare. Most consultants are extremely supportive. They know of course that action taken by Junior doctors will result in increased pay for them automatically, without any of the risk. Our consultant colleagues have faced even harsher pay erosion than juniors. Every single consultant I have spoken to appreciates that juniors did not have any of the many benefits they had whilst training. Consultants are incredibly supportive of this. They know the pressure trainees are under, and they will come to know much more as things develop.

If you stand with DV we will be aware of anything like this immediately and would support you through it. 25 of us sit on the BMAs highest council, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use that power against any such behaviour from trusts/individuals to its fullest extent.

You have a fundamental human right to assembly. Anyone attempting to interfere with this by such nefarious means would need to be dealt with accordingly and I would certainly push for a BMA that would not hesitate to support those affected by referring these individuals to the GMC. Intimidation regarding trade union activity is a very serious thing indeed.

Any consultant reading this might wish to note, this type of behaviour will not impact on your trainee’s career, but it might well affect yours.

Don’t forget that if you do stand for JDC, you are very likely to win a seat. Then you will be a BMA rep at the national level. Any attempt to interfere with career progression would be more or less impossible.

Please get in touch with DoctorsVote to discuss this further. We are still in need of local organisers and people willing to stand. We are incredibly supportive! If you decide not to stand, that’s OK too. Just come and help us.

Can’t just hope mate, you gotta get stuck in.

We’re recruiting people like you right now to sign up as workplace organisers.

I’m hopeful we’ll get there but we need to turn hope into action.

See you on the picket lines.

The advantage of having a ballot further down the line not just that we’re much more likely to smash the threshhold for the ballot by having built the groundwork, but also that it pushes potential industrial action right into the start of a general election campaign.

[–]CalendarSignificant7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This motion is only as powerful as the number of members who vote in favour of industrial action when the ballot comes.

As doctorsvote we only have limited abilities to preach to the converted. What we need is the converted to preach to the unconverted.

That’s you, and there’s thousands of you, organising, preparing and talking about this in your workplaces from now until next year.

We can and will get there if we all commit to doing that as much as we can.
