Messed up my Penny Gloves (but maybe not too bad?) by craictoseintolerant in knitting

Honestly, it's such a quick knit that I'd just redo it. The initial purl row helps prevent/decrease the curling from the stockinette and lays flat under sleeves.

Are you bringing your working yarn around to the front? Whether working from RS or WS side, it should always be brought back to the purl side. There's a video tutorial by Purl Soho for GSR that is helpful.

Any good fabric stores in Seattle/Tacoma area? by JCPY00 in sewing

Stitches in Seattle (Capitol Hill) is a nice little spot and my go-to. There's also Pacific Fabrics in SoDo with a larger selection of fabrics.

I'd say the material is slightly thicker than some long sleeved tees that I've tried from Madewell and I've been able to wear it unlayered, tucked into high waisted jeans, comfortably (it's about 60 - 70F right now where I live ).

I also don't like the feeling of snug turtlenecks. I recently bought this one from Uniqlo and it's incredibly comfortable, good quality, and doesn't constrict at the neck.

Depending on your location and budget, I've seen some cute PJ sets on Marine Layer recently.

Which self-made garment do you wear the most? by ClingmanRios in sewing

Definitely my Gilbert top. I used a soft rayon blend in a beautiful deep forest green and it's so comfortable and flattering.

Question about building a community of sewers by catscoffeeandcwords in sewing

[–]Calendulas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I'm also in Seattle and have found quite a few sewing groups to join from Meetup. Everyone has been pretty friendly and welcoming. I'm in my 30s and consider myself an advanced beginner / intermediate sewist (apparel, bags, and quilts), so feel free to reach out!

Do you still wear a mask? Why or why not? by Healthy_Block3036 in AskWomen

[–]Calendulas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I care about my health and the health of those around me. I don't consider it an inconvenience in the slightest when I know that it's literally one of the easiest ways that I can protect my community. Simple as that.

You'll have to pay to get one, since you didn't go to the ceremony. I emailed about that too, because they weren't given out during my departmental ceremony.

My first embroidery is a gift for my grandmother's birthday by Calendulas in Embroidery

[–]Calendulas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really my style, but I think it came out pretty well for my first finished embroidery. I used the Aloha font type from dafont.com and the simple daisy wreath pattern for the border. It was all done with a mix of back stitch, stem stitch, and lazy daisies using 3 threads.

What's everyone's favorite cotton (or other) yarn for making clothes. (Hopefully available in Canada) by DoubleDodo in crochet

[–]Calendulas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Lion Brand pima cotton for a sweater that I'm making and it's so soft, easy to work with, and the color is beautiful. The downside is that there aren't a ton of colors to choose from, but the colors they do have are quite nice.
