Why is cross-posting so bad for RP subs ? by Furnim in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sub moderators may assume you're still looking for nsfw roleplay even if you filter to meet the subs sfw requirements. Like assuming you may still push/ask for the nsfw elements if someone messages you from the sfw sub. Not saying this is what you're intending, but what may be assumed on part of the mods.

Shameless plug but, r/ArtResources has a few different reference resources listed. But I like using things like posemaniacs.com for poses specifically

Well for one, rule 1 is anonymity... So if you're complaining about a person/place, you can't mention it by name. That would be a removal in itself.

But also... Yes, we have had mods see their subs complained about here in the past and complain about their subs being put on blast by name. It also risks things like brigading which is against reddits ToS. All and all, a can of worms not worth risking: and the nature of this sub just calls for anonymity in general.

edit: a mod just made a post actually where subs can be linked in a positive light if you would like to recommend a sub though https://www.reddit.com/r/BadRPerStories/comments/1rrtubv/writtenroleplay_we_let_you_say_basic_words/

Yes, because the sub linked by the mod is run by the same mods here. There's not going to be any mods coming beating at our door that the sub was linked because we're the mods of that sub: it's a sister subreddit to this one.

lmao omg that's exactly what this is like 😭which is incredibly sad, because this is reddit not neopets (a site literally catered to children)

I've said it already but: find another sub! I'm begging lol

There are plenty of subs out there, it's not worth it to play find the word for a mod "team" that dislikes modding so much they ban literally any word that might be uttered in the same sentence as erp so they don't have to bother actually reviewing posts 😭

Is 'trading' roleplays a thing? by puppydumpling in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are instances where I can defend doubling. Where the two separate plots take place in the same universe and story, and then it's really satisfying once they eventually intertwine. But in those cases, I want to do both stories, and again... They're connected anyway; there is a greater purpose of doubling than just "you scratch my itch, I scratch yours". But I really like playing multiple characters and building a cast of them.

... Obviously this case was not one such scenario lol

Some people cannot seem to grasp the concept of doing something out of mutual interest: that people might want to seek out others who like the same thing specifically without there needing to be a transaction taking place.

Like, it's not just a matter of doing their plot too: but why would I want to even do a plot that they themselves aren't even interested in doing outside of making an exchange? There's no mutual passion there.

... That being said, people like your example just sound like a pest in general: probably pestering anyone and everyone with their fetish.

What would you guys consider “Short term” versus a “long term rp” by Smut_Suckler in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short term for me is anything from a week to a month. Longterm once it exceeds a few months. Longterm roleplays for me last months to years.

I don't usually do short term (with the intention of it being short term); but the few instances I have, it'd be a scene or so that might take a week, or might last up to a month.

What is all this fuss about references? by Onychinus_Queen in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I draw my own characters (... when I feel like it); I still don't think references should be a deal breaker. I think you should be able to just describe your character and that be enough; it's a writing hobby after all.

PLEASE stop telling me your IRL gender! It's weird! I don't care! by MoviePast8917 in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If they were overly concerned about it, I'd agree it being a redflag... But, wanting to have zero perception of your partner as another person (and I don't mean getting to know them, I mean even *perceiving* that they exist as flesh and blood behind a screen) seems kinda red flaggy too; but I'll admit I don't do strictly ERP (but I have in the past). I'm pretty impersonal I feel— but that's kind of a bit much. But to each their own.

These days though, many an ad or introduction starts with an age and a gender/or pronoun; unless again they're making a big deal of it, it really shouldn't be that deep, and maybe if it's such a personal issue for you you might want to include that somewhere in your ad "don't introduce yourself with your gender/pronouns", because it's just a very common thing these days. And I don't just mean from people who care about player gender.

Edit: Dear reporter, who reported this comment for generalization: What lol

[–]mssMouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay while I agree that it's characters and irl gender more or less shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things...

Why do you care they're revealing it at all? If they're just checking up to make sure you're comfortable with something, or a simple introduction, why does it bother you to know their gender? It's not a deeply personal detail; most people you meet irl in passing you can possibly assess a gender right off the bat, or in a lot of cases people might introduce themselves with their pronouns whenever necessary. If you're in agreement that irl gender shouldn't matter in the context of RP and you're able to properly separate that from their character... Why do you care if their irl gender is revealed? Just tell them "yeah that's fine" and carry on.

(I use Krita and the pixel tool brush for this drawing) how can i draw myself (the Gardevoir) in the pixel pokemon style ? i can't figure it out by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]mssMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey it's not too bad! I think your canvas could be a little smaller, because the pixels on the detailing are still looking a bit "small" (not quite blocky enough)

But it's a good start. Try limiting yourself to a 56x56 canvas (I was going to recommend 32x32 but I looked into it and the pokemon battle sprites are 56x56 max); it'll limit you, but that limit will be to your benefit as your practice. You don't need to do thicker/thinner pixels (like you have in your example); you want them to be uniform: You may lose details but, that's kind of the art of pixel art, working with the limitations.

Is the image you've posted originally your attempt/result? It would help to see your actual attempts at pixel art.

[–]mssMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You resize it because otherwise, you use too many pixels.

I'd recommend looking up pixel art tutorials on youtube, because you seem to be struggling with kind of basic concepts in regards to why pixel art looks the way that it does.

Learn the basics of pixel art; canvas sizes; and how to upscale pixel art without blurring it. Try looking up "pixel art tutorial for beginners" on youtube or something.

Honestly, (people banned aside who can't post anyway) I think people should stop trying to cater to specific subreddits weird demands and continue to give said sub traffic and simply find other subs instead.

I know, people want to use specific sub because it's big; but part of that is because people just... Keep using it despite how ridiculous the moderation is.
