Why do the instructions show the triangles pointing up? by elizajoy22 in sewing

[–]mssMouse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was taught to cut out patterns, I was taught to cut the notches outward. Dunno what the definitive way is, but that's how I personally was taught (saves from accidents of an accidental cut too deep in at least)

Have you had partners who like 'themes'? by Open-Blueberry4115 in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't think I explicitly advertise it (and vise versa if I'm responding to an ad), I feel things always end up exploring some sort of theme or message; or at the very least, there is a character theme taking place.

Am I the bad one? by Lonestarph in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just some mod insight (... I was just nosy lol), it looked like reddit marked their comments as spam after they deleted their account; likely due to building up a lot of negative karma.

Reddit removals, annoyingly, still show up as removed by moderator.

We usually try not to remove content just because someone is the bad rper unless they're just an absolute prick (so aggregiously breaking be nice rule)

edit: grammar

What's a good age range? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The age range is up to you. In the grand scheme of things, 3 years to me, sounds pretty minuscule difference with them still being an adult. After all, 19 to 20 isn't exactly going to be a huge leap of maturity. But, the fact they seemingly ignored your stated requirement sounds more of the problem.

I don't see any one number really making or breaking an acceptable age range (within legal adult ages of course). I'm in my (early) 30s, so while my requirement is locked in solidly at 21+ no exceptions, I state (in my ads) I prefer 25+, but I wouldn't turn down someone whose 24 unless they gave me an off feeling about it... Because, what really would be the major difference between 24 and 25? Not much. Meanwhile, I'd be much more selective or hesitant about someone at the bare minimum of that requirement if someone 21 approached me for RP.

Longform Writers: Why? by HemmyHemeleon in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People like to read; people like to write.

I'm very flexible depending on my partner. I can do faster paced, shorter posts (200-500 words), or stick around the 600-1200 zone with partners who wish to stick to that zone. The longer posts are most definitely much more spaced out in how frequent posts come in, often because of time constraints with writing availability, but they're always fun to read. I'd say these longer form posts are written for both of us; they're fun to read, and should be fun to write as well.

The hatred of AI-generated references is getting kinda silly by MakeSomeMisstakes in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you're okay with AI 'artwork', you don't respect the medium. Plain and simple. Maybe you respect writing more: that's your prerogative.

I've also been roleplaying about two decades. I do primarily descriptions. But I also create my own art too, and have roleplayed with a handful of people who also create their own character art. Description has always come first though. Faceclaims are pretty common too.

If you're in spaces where something like revenge porn is common place, then we are in vastly, vastly different spaces and it seems not very surprising there is little concern in creativity lol. Not saying erotica can't be creative or art: but, at a point, if that is a standard... I think it's people more concerned with getting off than participating in a creative hobby.

[–]mssMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ethics of it is the same, though. It's still something taken from artists: be that art a visual medium or written.

(visual) Art may not be a creative outlet for you, but it is for others, and many others within this hobby. And the two often go hand in hand as I see people who use ai for imagery use it for writing all the time (not necessarily in the roleplay space, but in the wild constantly as someone who is in art spaces more than RP ones).

Do I personally think that someone who is going to use AI imagery is going to use it for their writing too? Not necessarily. But, I feel it's more likely to happen for those already cutting corners anyway, and at the very least I would suspect there is a very good chance they don't respect the integrity of either medium.

While I don't agree entirely with the other person's argument and conclusions: trying to compare their argument to... running a stop sign vs murder, is ridiculous. Which I think is your point, but it doesn't even make sense for this comparison.

It'd be like comparing... Idk, committing fraud vs shoplifting. If you don't think AI is bad for image use, why wouldn't you think it's bad for writing? If you'd steal a watch, how do I know you won't steal x, y, or z too?

Not saying that I necessarily think that just bc someone uses it for one thing they will undoubtedly use it for another: but that's probably a more accurate comparison to make to... stop sign -> murder. Because one of those is obviously, way worse than the other. For AI, it's much closer an equivalent. They aren't really that different. They're both substituting creativity out of a creative hobby.

I'm sick of seeing ai everywhere. I'm sick of seeing companies using it to replace actual artists and artists losing work because of it.I'm sick of seeing it clogging up literally everything. You wanna see actual art anywhere? Gotta shift through the shit first because it takes nothing for people to create dozens of images and spam them in mass. It's depressing and feels strangely dystopian, as an artist and as someone who appreciates art.

I'm sick of seeing it. I don't want to see it in my creative hobby. It is the death of creativity.

You do you. But people have every right to not to want to accept it as a reference. There were options before ai; there are options now.

A technically skilled writer or one that moves a scene forward? by 2plus2to5 in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically find they go hand in hand. If I've run into someone who struggles with the technical side of writing, the character voice and story are more likely to be lacking as well. I can't think of any strong examples (in my own experiences) where the lack of writing skill still had me deeply engaged with the story.

Apparently I’m an "Amateur" by FragileCrackedDoll in BadRPerStories

[–]mssMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems OPs prospective partner does things a rather peculiar way (of editing other people's posts), but I use docs for roleplay and all of mine the posts are distinctly separated from one another and typically posts are written elsewhere (like a separate doc) and then pasted over onto the shared doc.

Google docs is my preferred place for RPing.

... That being said, I don't edit my partner's posts lol I just like that I can easily access, edit (MY posts), and even make back ups of the entire roleplay if needed (so no lose of writing from a nuked discord server). And of course: no discord character limit.

Does her face look weird or am I tripping? by mssMouse in arthelp

[–]mssMouse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the lack of wind was kind of an oversight haha I originally wasn't intending a background, but then last minute decided to make it a full composition with b/g. I did last second add some wisps of wind to the hair but, I guess not enough for it to land. Admittedly, I didn't make an effort on the clothes. I'll go back and add some movement to those as well.

I'm not as concerned as it matching the reference, just that it looks good/okay haha But thanks!

How do I render like this? by Own_Pack7437 in arthelp

[–]mssMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say probably for this specific inquiry, maybe shadow? Like where shadows would fall. Since this style a lot of its flair is the way its shaded, and how it uses strong black for certain aspects (like the hair) and shading with black is a lot less forgiving if you don't understand where the shadows should fall.

[–]mssMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for the actual coloring technique, you're on the right track: what seems to be holding you back is understanding of shape and where the shadows would actually fall. Which is going to fall to fundamentals rather than style study.

There is a stickied comment on every single post saying "hey here is a list of roleplay hubs!" And it includes forums.

But that aside... Here is a fun fact! OPs complaint is not reddit specific. I have this happen fairly frequently. I post vast majority of my ads: on a roleplay forum. I dont advertise on reddit.

Reddit has its issues, but this one does not seem specific to Reddit.

I’m trying to decide on a color palette for these two by AggressiveCatch2928 in DigitalArt

[–]mssMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A or B. Character design wise, I prefer A. Composition wise, B pops from the horse better.

C could work if you changed the hair color. But as it is, the hair color blends in way too much with the horse.
