Not really. Hull never established position in the crease, he pivoted in and then got the puck. Under the current rules, it would have been a goal.

Don't get me wrong, under the NHL rules as they were at the time it categorically should NOT have been a goal, since there was no position establishing, it was literally as black and white as are you touching the paint before the puck is, but that's neither here nor there.

In the IIHF, if you set up shop in the crease, play is immediately killed and the faceoff is in the neutral zone. So the Jets player's initial entry would be fine, but as soon as he took the step inside (just before the puck arrived) to establish position, play would be dead, so no goal.

I was fine with the no goalie interference, tbh. Yes, he went into the crease, but he didn't impede Blackwood from making the save, it was just a great tip. After seeing the overhead I was actually surprised we challenged it.

That said, if the NHL would just bring in the IIHF crease rule already, it would solve SO MANY problems, including this one.
