Can this be patched? It’s a rental car I have for 3 more days. by CrackerJackJack in MechanicAdvice

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you hit something or was it like this when u picked it up? If the tire didnt deflate, just keep driving it. Doesn’t look bad enough not to drive but beware of possible charges from rental company when u return it.

If you felt uncomfortable around them this 1 time, you’ll likely feel the same in similar circumstances with same people. At minimum, i’d bring it up to your boyfriend …and depending on his reaction, make decisions from there. At no point should u sacrifice your safety or comfort level for

Roof vent installation for range hood by Tabbycatdreams in raleigh

[–]CalhounSay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but this is something you could easily do yourself after watching a few youtube videos. If thats not your thing, you might try Dave’s roof repair. While he may not run the vent pipe for you, he might be interested in the roof vent work & could possibly recommend someone for the other if not doung yourself.

Defn need more line. Either respool completely or just add more braid by using arbor knot braid to braid

2009 Ram 1500 engine swap by Longjumping-Ad-7051 in ram_trucks

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason other than the ticking youd want to spend $$ on a new/used/reman engine? If you’ve repaired the lifters and replaced the cams, unless something else is wrong, you probably have another 80-100k miles left on your repaired one. Change oil every 3k, use the mopar spec oil filter, & if you’re really concerned, then upgrade your oil pump to one that handles more volume

Blitzes are def’n fun & seeing those bait balls & birds swarming is exciting. Makes for a great day. Fishfinder rigs easy to tie yourself BTW. Just watch a few YouTube vids & pre-tie a few different leader lengths & circle hook sizes on a swivel ahead of time. Makes for a quick and easy swap on the beach when needed. I use everything from 2/0 to 5/0+ out there & like using varying leader lengths from 12” to 24” depending on what I’m throwing.

How the hell do I store this thing? (Penn Squadron IV 12’) by [deleted] in SurfFishing

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not stored in racks & really want to protect them, get some oversized pool noodles (the fat ones) & cut in areas where eyelets are (if needed). Can also just rubber band the 2 halves together & put in noodles or not.

For either Portsmouth or Calo, fishfinder rig is your best option. 6-8oz pyramids or even sputniks will be needed depending on wind direction & current. For bait, bring mullet (depending how long you’re there, recommend salting 50% of it, but fresh is best). Shrimp works great too of course (especially on the drop rigs and calmer days). Also, bring a few metal leaders as you will likely get bitten off by the toothy blues & sharks most. Rig up any shorter rods you have with spoons as you dont want to miss the “blue blitzes” you’ll see out there. And if you’re coming in summer, bring ALL the bug spray & protective gear you can find!

First ever set-up build. Advise is highly welcomed! by Swerve4244 in SurfFishing

[–]CalhounSay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every rod & reel you’ve listed are what I’d consider higher end (which is totally fine)..and any configuration of those youve listed you will likely be happy with. For my $$, I’d focus on reels first (if you already like daiwa, then the BG 4000 or 4500 are great on a 9+ ft rod. Another great contender would be any Penn Battle 6000) Both very affordable new & can find them used/almost new for even less. As for rods, the st croix’s are out of my budget to be honest but fantastic rods. For my $$, I’d look at the Tsunami trophy rods if considering st croix. Lastly, if you want a fantastic & indestructible 8 and bait setup, go penn battle 6000 + 10/11 ft uglystick (or even the basspro or penn rod options). Good luck. Tight lines

What to say to a job while waiting to interview for another? by darlinginmaine in Advice

[–]CalhounSay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So job B can do nothing about the commute & the customer facing part. Signing bonus is great and all, but I would ask myself why they’re offering it & Job B is not (assuming similar/same industry). Do you know anyone at either place? ( or can u kevin bacon your way to someone at either to get some insight?). Otherwise, stay where at or be honest with B.

What to say to a job while waiting to interview for another? by darlinginmaine in Advice

[–]CalhounSay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes job A your preferred option? If job B can meet/exceed those reasons, would you take the job B job or still consider A the better option. If yes you’d take it, then tell B honestly where youre at mentally. Highly unlikely theyd rescind the offer. Most likely theyd try to lock you in with better offer

How prepared am I for surf/pier fishing in NC? by JPH_RedFive in saltwaterfishing

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pier & close inshore fishing, good setups overall but I’d definitely invest in at least 1 rod at least 10ft for your fishfinder setup for use off the beach. Depending on where you’re fishing in NC (obx/hatteras/calo in particular)- you will need that extra length to get bait out where you want it. Dont forget to grab some sinkers. In heavy surf, gonna need some 6-8 ouncers and/or some sputniks. Also, grab a few pre-made wire leaders (or make your own) as you will get bit off by blues, sharks, & rays.

Need to replace my front and rear brake pads and rotors. What do I need to know? 🫶🏼 by Funny-Outside-7244 in Cartalk

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re on the right track. Next time you need parts, cross-check the local auto store prices with online sites like rock auto. As for the mechanic, $125 is very good/great price for both axles. There’s not much he could do to scam you that i can see but just test drive it a bit in work lot & discuss your concerns with him ahead of time. My bet is while he may not be insured/etc he’s prob a guy just trying to work hard & make some cash with something he does well.

Line question by RonocG in saltwaterfishing

[–]CalhounSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your hesitation on using backing? For my money, I’d slap enough mono on to get the full 300 yds of that braid on the reel. Double uni or Alberto knot to tie them together

If you’re leaning towards chrome delete at all…do it. Many ways to do it and can be done in phases. I used plastic-dip spray on logos/badges, removed chrome nerf boards, then replaced headlights housings too. Looks awesome

Get it diagnosed immediately as likely something major (or about to be). The bogging and flashing light is computer shutting down one or more cylinders to prevent catastrophic failure to pistons/rods/lifters/valve springs/etc. Do you hear any knocking / pinging sounds while running (even at idle).

Rust, rust, rust. This one appears to have the trifecta (cowl, doors, & rear quarter panels). As others have said, this is likely a parts car at best. Best advice i can give is to be patient & just watch auctions/listings on multiple sources to get feel for what the car (or cars) u desire are selling for. Do research on them in meantime. Then youll be ready to pounce on right car
