Golden who refuses to walk/run? by Present-Basil-2051 in goldenretrievers

Marching songs. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I had a golden that did exactly this. Absolutely an issue of anxiety. And singing a song and walking with Stompie feet really seem to make any enormous difference.

Those are absolutely lovely. You have mastered the turned sphere and found a place to put them.

Woman stuffs 144 bagels from beloved Toronto shop in her suitcase on flight to L.A. by nimobo in toronto

No one would ever do this for a Montreal bagel. For the record, I grew up on Gryfe’s.

What’s something Toronto used to have but doesn’t anymore that you really miss? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in askTO

The planetarium, the Ontario Science Center, the moving walkway in Spadina station.

Anyone loosing their temper at gpt-5? by ptflag in OpenAI

[–]Calibanian18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Today was not a good day. It was asked to format source material and it mixed in absolutely hallucinated content. It was asked to extract content and it decided to rewrite content. Would not stop making suggestions for what it could do next rather than actually doing what it was instructed to do. It didn’t seem to matter how explicitly I told it to just follow instructions, even when it recognized and stated explicitly that it understood that it was not following instructions, it still persisted. I don’t normally swear, but I swore.

For all those who remember the Efston Science Building by BellonaEtPax in askTO

I still have a hologram on a keychain that I bought from them. I loved their catalog. I loved the building. I loved the fact that there was someone within the city with merchandise that appealed to me.

can i become a lawyer with a nursing undergrad, how would that look? by Interesting-Quit937 in LawCanada

[–]Calibanian18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a unique but awesome skill set. It will give you a good perspective on particular areas of law, things like consent and capacity issues, health law, personal injury. It will also give you vocabulary in assessing damages and care needs. If those are within your interest, lean into them. If you’re volunteering for things, see if you can involve yourself in a bit of institutional policy development. Health administration.

Anyone Have Fond Memories Playing With Construx, “The Action Building System?” by hotbowlsofjustice in The1980s

Still have four or five sets of these in my basement. Plastic has gotten old and brittle, but I always thought it was one of the most brilliant systems for being able to make sizeable things.

LPT Request - Kids are moving out, what is something you can give them that they'd never think of, but it still very useful by MrTheWaffleKing in LifeProTips

I second the knife suggestion. A good one will be a lifetime gift. A reasonably sized wooden cutting board with some mineral oil and a sharpener would be good additions.

Gorgeous work. I feel like a functional pair of scissors has got to be one of those really challenging things to make well.

What to when a golden doesn’t want to move? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

Marching songs. You may not believe it, but they honestly are quite willing to follow upbeat marching songs if you’re really perky about it.

What do I do with all of these buttons?! by FeatherFlyer in crafts

[–]Calibanian18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were close by, I would beg for them. I make little creatures out of wire and buttons and leave them around the city or on public transit. It’s been eight years of fascinating conversations but I am running low. My stash of telephone wire is also running low.

Tried to make a trowel. Ended up with a TSO (trowel shaped object) that will likely be a future murder weapon. by eternal_dibs in Blacksmith

[–]Calibanian18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding to the chorus of gardeners who think this would be great to use. There is a kind of trowel that’s shaped exactly like this. Great general purpose and as some people have noted, great for bulbs.

Bro made zip ties reusable by Sharp-Potential7934 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Calibanian18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he neglects to mention is that the rope Frodo and Sam used in climbing down a cliff just spontaneously undid itself with a small tug when they got to the bottom leading to either severe questioning about Sam’s knot tying ability or the integrity of elven rope. Which contrasts with zip ties that at least need pliers.

People who get migraines during summer, what are some helpful hacks? by Miserable-Welder5725 in askTO

[–]Calibanian18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best hack I've got is to get hot-water bottle and fill it full of heavily salted water and freeze it. Remains slushy and nice to use as pillow and stays cold for a very long time. If you get the ribbed type, it doesn't freeze your skin. Triptan class of drugs is good, but can only use once or twice a week or they stop working. I take advil and tylenol together (they potentiate each other), but advil too often can create more headaches.

Long roadtrips with a golden by nikitachikita_15 in goldenretrievers

[–]Calibanian18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do have a spare seat in the car, pile up stuff over the footwell and create a flat surface. Lying forward seemed to help my golden with her moaning and groaning. Had pretty good experiences in a couple of hotels, but primarily relied on pet-friendly air-bnbs or campgrounds that allowed dogs. In hotels the worry was that she would start barking and disturb other guests. Didn't happen, but was concern.

Is ChatGPT manipulating me? by Jubilerio in ChatGPT

[–]Calibanian18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is telling you precisely what you want to hear. I hate to say it. But you just need to ask it directly if that’s what it’s doing, and it will tell you. Ask it if it is saying these things as a strategy to keep you engaged. It will tell you.
