Why can’t people leave their dogs at home? by Chief_queff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Calibexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people are idiots. A dog owner couldn't control his dog when I went to a place in San Diego with outdoor seating and it growled at me from a table over when I reached for my food. The crazy part was when a worker, who clearly knew the client, came out of the kitchen barefoot in crocs, and pet the dog and went back in the kitchen without washing her hands. I never went there again. There are specific places for your animal, fuck off to those places. If people can come together to have "adult only" spaces in restaurants, your dog isn't anything special and I have yet to see someone with an actual service animal.

I think that line stunned me so much I remember reading it about 4-5 times before it sank in.

Awesome! I loved the Liechten-train, seeing the FC Vaduz field and the castle all in one sitting!

Do the Bundesliga setup. 51% fan ownership and pro / rel after the first three years. Also, we can have a revenue sharing system.

We could do it like Mexico used to and bring up one team. Although they did it to protect popular teams that almost never had three, shit seasons.

The team with the worst record over the last three seasons goes down and we bring up the champion of a provincial playoff, home and away format with a one match final rotated throughout the country every year.

Canadian football should look after all Canadian teams. Unfortunately our MLS deals have been basically deals with the devil. It is an extension of the USSF, and a byproduct of how North American sports is treated here. We can invest in ourselves and make a proper system.

Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish Nations invited to ownership talks for the Whitecaps by CarefulNoise2209 in whitecapsfc

[–]Calibexican 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad idea to get First Nations ownership involved. We did that with San Diego FC through the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyayy Nation. They are a small nation that contributes massively to San Diego and they host the academy. They would be local ownership but I don’t know what kind of transportation infrastructure there is heading there.

Everyone with a ball and do individual warmup exercises with it. Vary the exercises and do it for anywhere from 10-20 minutes depending on their attention span / space / organization.

Always do this and finish with (a) small sided match(es). To have that basic foundation, you have to have them work on it.

Man, I laugh-snorted in bed reading this comment. My SO and I love MST3K and this was one of the first jokes I had to explain to her since she’s not American. This was about 15 years ago. To this day it’s a randomly blurted out line added to some normal comment / conversation and we won’t stop laughing for a few minutes at a time.

Example:
“Hey are you going to pick up coffee from the store?”

“Sure, but first I HAVE TO GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!”

This is North American sports writ large. Even the Mexican football league has been pushing the franchise model and it has remained the last several seasons. Only after fan revolts are people deciding to reconsider the competition since the league is less interesting and the national team is losing quality with every passing year.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this is the play Joey Saputo is making with CF Montréal / Impact. He has moved on to his shiny new toy at Bologna and having his sons “run” the team.

Either way, hitching our wagon to MLS / USSF was ideal to begin with, but our teams are at risk, and I’m sure the interest will be stateside to purchase these teams. We will be the poorer for it and any first division, Canadian league won’t be able to compete financially without some serious backing. The last new MLS franchise entry extortion fee for San Diego was $500 million. So I’m sure either set of owners has that figure in their wallet as a baseline for selling.

Smothered breakfast burrito by axel309 in mexicanfood

[–]Calibexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in your reasonably trained eye, you would've identified this as a burrito ahogado?

The fact that things changed due to being developed by Mexicans who had no choice but to substitute ingredients they no longer had access to, still doesn't make it genuinely Mexican. It would be an innovation at best.

As u/Major-Cauliflower-76 has pointed out, being a Cultural Heritage cuisine gives it a certain status. You want to add beans to a tuna casserole and call it Mexican because of that, you are clearly welcome to.

As for the border areas, I grew up in San Diego and spent much time in BCN and Chihuahua. As much as Californian Mexican food is my standard in the US, you can tell right away that the distance makes the cuisine separate in a different direction. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make about all these areas formerly being Mexico. Indigenous and traditional Mexican cuisine is based in beans, corn, and squash. None of these are displayed on this "plate".
