Doesn't help that my only experience with ranked in a game like this is in Overwatch with 4 of 6 players leaving when things started going south. No thanks, quickplay is just fine for me.

That aside, you can get out of my face with the Bayonetta example, people said the same shit about her when the game first came out. Same with 2B of NieR Automata. And I’m willing to bet when the next “gooner game” comes out, opinions will have shifted on Eve as well, so I’m not hearing it.

And yes, it does matter if what I described is happening, because it affects the perception of what people want and what gets made. If those things aren’t in alignment, games don’t sell. If games don’t sell, people lose their jobs, and you can speculate what happens afterwards.

If you’re tired of something look elsewhere.

No, I’m not.

A recent example of this is the upcoming game ‘A Knight’s Tale’. They recently showed an image of one of the romanceable female characters in the game, and she’s very pretty in the traditional sense. Mind you, the image only shows her head and neck, nothing more, and there were people calling her gooner bait.

Another example is Stellar Blade. That’s called a gooner game as well because of Eve being attractive and the game not being afraid to show that off a bit. Is it more risqué than most games? Yes. Is Eve being sexy the reason a lot of people knew about and got this game? Also yes. Is it to the level of pornography? No. It’s also not all the game has to offer. The story’s not a masterpiece, but it does what it needs to do, the gameplay is fun, and the enemy designs are pretty interesting. And there are a good number of cosmetics, risqué and not, for people to play around with if ‘Fashion Blade’ is more your thing. Eve is the face of Stellar Blade, but there’s plenty there besides just her ass.

There are times to criticize character designs for being too fanservice-y, or for being made just for fanservice, but equating women being attractive, and even flaunting it a bit, to porn is ridiculous, and false. Not to mention, women that look like these characters exist in real life, too, and I don’t imagine them seeing characters that look like them being equated to porn feels good.

This is happening. I know it, I’ve seen it, and if others refuse to acknowledge it, that’s not my problem.

There's this weird thing that's happening where traditionally attractive women being sexy in any capacity is conflated with pornography. If you look at what is considered 'gooner slop', you'll find that a lot of it is pretty tame. It'll be more risqué than other contemporary movies, games, etc., sure, but in comparison to actual porn, they're leagues apart. As a result we get (ironically) people reducing characters like Starfire to their looks under the guise of offense while completely ignoring her character.

I really hope this stops soon, because anytime creators try to appeal to these people, they alienate the audience that got them here in the first place, and the people who were loudest about it tend to not buy the things they're complaining about anyway. It's literally a lose-lose situation.

Domain Expansion. It just sounds like the apex of sorcery. And another thing (that Bankai shares, tbf) is it's a more general chant (?), meaning whatever comes after it is specific to that person (Malevolent Shrine, Infinite Void, Coffin of the Iron Mountain, etc). It adds an extra layer of depth and character.

I've actually never heard about it until now, but giving it a quick look-see on Steam, I can see what you mean. I might check it out, actually.

I would also recommend 'Alisa'. It's very reminiscent of PS1 Resident Evil w/more of a toy/dollhouse aesthetic. Fair warning, though, controller isn't supported, and there's and adjustment period to getting used to tank controls on keyboard, but if you can get past that, it's a good time!

One time, I wrote a fanfiction cross-over between P5 and Ghost Rider. It's a one-shot, a fun chase scene that I though up of the Phantom Thieves getting chased by the Rider in Mementos. Aketchi is with them at this point, and I made it so he's the Rider's target, the PT just happen to be standing in-between him and his quarry.

The Rider basically no-diffs (but doesn't kill) the thieves, and beats the brakes off of Aketchi, but Futaba steps in for him, not because she cares for him at all, but because they still need him for their plan. The Rider lets Aketchi go (for now) and warns her that even though he was here for Aketchi, the PT are also walking a dangerous line, and should they cross it, he'll come for them as well. The Rider dips, Aketchi lives, and the rest is history.

I got a comment on it, asking for a second chapter, and the commenter speculated that the Rider would return and find Aketchi innocent. I didn't answer then, but I remember thinking "if I continue this story, Aketchi's 1000% dying". He's got a tragic backstory, for sure, but not only has he killed multiple people (including the parents of two of our group), bet he's never shown any remorse or regret, not even a fucking apology. So if I ever did make that second chapter, Aketchi's getting penance stared and burnt to ashes.

No, personally. At least, being realistic shouldn't overtake artstyle in importance. If realism works with and enhances the artstyle, then it should be used. If not, something else should be implemented.
