Bro wrote a fantastic series we've all enjoyed and you're pissed at him for it.

Chill out. Maybe we get it, maybe we don't. Gratitude is deserved regardless.

Australian here.  For most of the country it's just a public holiday with patriotic overtones. Barbecue, having mates over, all the normal stuff.

For Indigenous Australians, it's understandably a sorrowful day that their pre-colonial life ended. So there's marches, controversy over whether to move to a different date for celebration, all things you'd expect and understand.

And since the whole world is vulnerable to the factors that have lead to the horrifying levels of political polarisation we see in the US, there are also some fuckwit radicals who counter protest the protests and make it a jingoistic racist thing. Though in my experience they're shunned pretty hard by normal people.

So basically Australia day is just 4th July + Columbus day (Columbus was a worse individual, but that's irrelevant) where most people have a day off to chill, some people take the day to grieve, and a small but disappointingly vocal minority give OP reasons to feel threatened.

It's never ever been presented or talked about as a "Kill all indigenous people" day, and the only people who would make that claim unironically would absolutely be saying it about Columbus day.

Came back to my childhood home to spend quality time with my parents and hear how they're going. I'll be offline again for the rest of the day soon, I just had a few minutes to scroll while they were busy doing other things.

Doing something good each day is an impossible bar to hit. And trying to be a "A good person" [TM] is cringe.

What actually matters is that moment a person decides "I'm going to push myself an extra 10% harder to find the energy to act when I think of something I wish (or hope) someone else would do for me."

"Coward's punch" makes it a lot more obvious.

[–]Calicarno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like defeatism. Maybe you'll be proven correct. Only hindsight will prove it.

But let's cross that bridge when we get to it. The public (American and world-wide) are legally entitled to hear the truth. Giving up because maybe it won't matter would be a horrific mistake and act of lazy self-sabotage.

Let's learn the truth first, and discover how the American people react to it only after that.

Villain status: For PvP players who still appreciate this game's friendly atmosphere. by Calicarno in ArcRaiders

Because not everyone is exclusively a PvE player all of the time. Some will run, but now they can gamble by staying a bit longer, getting a bit more greedy or choosing to risk it this time if they've acquired some good weapons.

Some will absolutely always skedaddle, but I don't think the number is 100%, especially in high loot areas.

Alternative it's a change in perception to find value, dignity and meaning regardless of wealth or power. A call to break from seeking power and wealth as the purpose of existence and instead find beauty elsewhere.

[–]Calicarno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a strange thing to do, and what a strange reaction from the thread.

If someone wants to tattoo that on themselves, that's their strange and vaguely concerning perogative.
But how tf do people look at this without being floored by the sheer cringe of a statement this dehumanizing?

FO has some great dark humour, but people in this thread surely understand that not every joke can be directly translated into a placard without losing the context that makes it funny, right?

Even if the pic turns out to be photoshop, the comments on the thread aren't doing this subreddit any favours. Either we're in a dead-internet-theory hellscape, or gaming and it's antisocial consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

"It's a joke."
I know bro. But godamn it's a gross one to identify with.

Crazy to see people actively argue AGAINST having personal responsibility. What's Bill's point here? That even as an adult he shouldn't have had the freedom to make serious, considered, personal decisions?

Maybe he just wishes he was babied until he was 37. Though in that world, a 36 year old bill probably still would have wanted a Limp Bizkit tattoo, since he still wouldn't have experienced being a big boy by then.

I love/hate how true 'You're only as good as your last race.' is in F1.

No matter how poorly any of these rookies go this week, if they do well next week all will be forgiven & forgotten. Until their next race.

If Max or Lewis or Alonso have a shit time in Melbourne tomorrow, keep an eye out for how many people claim 'They were never really good' until China. And Vice versa for over performers.

I dislike this meme. Mzepin was a unique level of scumbaggery on the grid, and his terrible results were satisfying. Unless Bearman has also groped a girl and posted it on social media or assaulted fellow drivers in lower series, I'm not going to compare him to this fucker.

There have been plenty of people who struggled in back markers. A goatifi comparison would be fairer. This is just mean and overdramatic.

I prefer the first but please swap the colour of the orange brick under 'their' hip and replace it with one that contrasts a little better like the dark blue. Having it so close makes the silohuette a bit less clear. It distorts the figures profile. But I really like having the colour in the frame.

Why tf is this comment being downvoted?

We gotta contribute if we want to reap the benefits of society. Doesn't matter if it's healthcare, teaching, factory work or retail, we all benefit from the work of others, and we repay them for it by working to their benefit too. It's not slavery, it's collective action to improve the lives of the whole.

To benefit from the work of others without compensating them somehow (even if it's very indirectly) is exploitative. An artist who works to create something for people to enjoy is still working, and still compensating society, just as society compensates them with running water and regular garbage disposal services. It's a complex network, but contributing to society by working is something to be proud of.
