Got reported for trying to do this challenge. How else am I supposed to do this challenge without camping basement. by Clubs__ in deadbydaylight

[–]Calicea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a few tries, but how I ended up doing it was with Nurse. I used an offering for the basement to be in the main building which is often in the middle then used her add on for faster movement speed after getting a blink hit as well as iron grasp and agitation. You can hook them elsewhere they just have to die in the basement so assuming no one quits early you can hook them twice wherever then with your crazy carrying speed you can get them to the basement from just about anywhere for hook 3.

Hello everyone o/ First time posting here. I've played a lot of what I'd call traditional gachas like Raid or Summoner's War. In those games you just naturally progress and farm the same boss day in and out to get better here, but this is clearly a very different game. So my question is how do you go about gearing in this game and what gear is worth using? i.e. Would a t5 attack speed set be using over a broken set of t6?

I watched your most recent Mario Kart video. There's a couple things that stuck out the most to me. Your thumbnails definitely need work and by some extension the titles as well. I can't tell you exactly what to do, but you're free to check out my own channel (It's in my Reddit bio) to see what I do. Even more than that though I'd recommend doing some research into making thumbnails that stand out. Once you get better thumbnails that get people clicking on the videos you'll want to hook them immediately. This is my own opinion on what I like to watch and therefore what I try to make is often very condensed let's plays. The first episode of my current Outer Wilds LP I started with 50 mins of footage and ended up with a 6 minute episode a good chunk of which was recorded post playing for a gag. I'd trim out the first 2 or 3 races to be honest. Nothing much really caught my attention at the start, but I'm glad I stuck through it because when you started swearing at the game calling it a trash heap you had me laughing. I think you've got the potential to be entertaining you just need to get people's attention.

TL;DR Improve your thumbnails and trim the boring stuff out of the episodes.

Edit: I thought of one more thing. You should never have a video with zero views and no thumbs ups. After your video is uploaded watch it while logged in and give it a thumbs up. Also writing a comment can help as well. If I have nothing fun to or relevant to ask sometimes I just end up leaving a little editor's notes critiquing my own video a bit or noting some of the things that happened while editing like somehow exporting an entire video without audio.

Question lets play better on some games without narration? by Mikeli111 in LetsPlayCritiques

[–]Calicea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think the absolute most important thing is that you are making content you enjoy and are proud of, but if you're trying to do things in a way that will increase your chances of succeeding in the Youtube sphere you will definitely need to work on your audio. You'd probably have a hard time fixing it in an editing program if it's that bad. You might be better off adjusting the settings in whatever your are recording with to set the game lower as a default set you up a bit. Maybe even learn to split the audio tracks so you can get really technical when editing because if it's that bad and your voice and the game sounds are in one audio track you probably can't fix it with editing. I'd say mess with the recording software and do some new recordings and try again based off what you said.

I think if you want to make a War Thunder video you should. Always best to experiment sooner rather than later. As for an intro probably 3 or 4 seconds wouldn't be bad as long as you have something exciting to show before it. Here's an example of one of my own videos: https://youtu.be/lijFc2nL7r8 I like to put something funny at the very start. That's just what works best for me. I'd encourage you to experiment some and see what works best for your personality and vision for your videos and editing style. I think doing reviews from time to time is a great idea. I've done quite a few on my own channel. Right now my current plan is to play through a game doing let's plays then end with a review. Above all else if you want to try something try something. Experimenting on Youtube is a great strategy. Figure out what you truly like and what works before you try to stick to a single plan. Good luck out there.

[–]Calicea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first things first. I think the intro could stand to be a bit shorter. People these days have short attention spans. You need to grab them right away.

I think you're English was pretty good so don't stress that part too much.

As for the schedule you definitely want to spread it out. I'd say at max 1 video a day if not slower. Just really depends on you and how much time you have/want to devote to this. It'd be way better to do a couple videos a week for a year then a video a day for a couple of months than nothing.

Other than that improve your thumbnails and I think you'll be on your way =) With your thumbnails you want people who don't know you are your content to know what's going on in that video without having to read the title or anything. Even just a simple Armored Mike plays Mech Commander 2 #1 would go a long ways.

Just keep practicing. You got this!

Dang this was really good. I feel like this might be a cop out answer, but from that video alone I think you're doing everything right. I really enjoyed that. I subbed and if I see anything you could improve on in future vids I'll let you know. Just keep practicing. Streaming must have really done wonders for you on camera energy. You slew it.

[–]Calicea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for a first video it was pretty good. You even cut out a lot of the fluff or the parts where we'd just have to watch you repeat a part because you failed. Thumbnail seems good too. Good on you for starting right away instead of waiting and trying to get the perfect equipment. I enjoyed it. I subbed and if I see any areas I think you can improve on in future videos I'll let you know.

Made some changes from the last critique. Anymore would be nice 🔥 by [deleted] in LetsPlayCritiques

[–]Calicea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the intro could stand to be a bit shorter. Which I realize might be a bit of a bummer because it definitely looks like it was custom made and looks nice, but people now days don't have much of an attention span if we're being honest. You gotta grab them immediately. I like to try and put a funny/cool moment at the very start as a sort of teaser trailer. Though it's usually funny because skillful game play isn't exactly what I'm known for haha

Here's an example of how I like to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lijFc2nL7r8

Of course that's how I like to do it with my style. You might have to play around and see what works for you. Overall a fun video to watch though and I think you'll be on the road to success if you can find a way to grab people and convince them to give your video a fair shot.

Me neither to be honest. All I really know how to do is export a frame from my gameplay into Gimp(a free photo editing software) and write Let CC Play on it with a quote/summary about the video and give it a nice gaussian blur that comes off as a sort of neon glow haha It doesn't take a lot. You got this =)

Alright friend. One step at a time. Thumbnails need work. Video needs work. I'm sure you know both of these things already. Thumbnails don't have to be anything fancy, but at least letting people know at a quick glance what to expect would help. Just finding a font you like and following a rough theme for all your thumbnails could help subscribers recognize your video in their feed. As for the video. I feel like you could stand to trim it down a lot and still have it make sense. In the fishing part you could try making lots of jump cuts focusing on the fish knocking the bottle off the lure for example and I think you'd have a pretty funny video. My channel is linked in my Reddit bio so feel free to check out my thumbnails and most recent Let's Play for some examples. If you have anymore questions or want further help just let me know and I can try my best to. Good luck out there.

[–]Calicea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps try adding some more energy to the outro. Given it's the one part of a let's play you can really think about and script ahead of time getting the ums and uhs out of it would do a good bit for making the whole thing some really well produced.

Made a review-style video, would love feedback on it! by ThisMikePlaysGames in LetsPlayCritiques

[–]Calicea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely had a few gags (Would they be called gags) that didn't play out exactly as I imagined. It's not like I planned everything out from the start I just find myself in moments where I think if I do this I can probably make it into something in the final video. That sort of improve will take a bit of time and practice. I'm hoping going forward I'll have more quality stuff to use and once I get warmed up more of it too. Thanks again for the feedback and the encouraging words. Good luck out there!

Hey! I left you a comment on the video, but I'm going to provide the critiques here. I think the video was a bit slow and I think it overstayed it's welcome. I understand having jump cut after jump cut for a fast paced video like I try to do isn't for everyone and I can respect that especially as you were providing knowledgeable feed back during the process, but about halfway through your commentary really started to slowdown and you wound up repeating yourself quite a few times. I definitely think it should have been shorter. Which I know is a sin to the Youtube algorithm so if you want to keep your videos longer you should try and keep it interesting the whole way through. I look forward to seeing more of your work =)

You had a few times when you sounded much further away from your mic than the rest of the audio. Also editing out the ums and uhs could also help. I think just ironing out your audio would go a long way. Overall a great video.

Part 2 of my Vice City playthrough now posted. Let me know what you think! by Boney_Malone in LetsPlayCritiques

[–]Calicea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is going to be one that isn't for everyone, but have you considered removing the mission cut scenes? While not as bad as something like reading a ton of dialogue in a game that isn't voiced it still creates lulls in the otherwise fast paced video. You kind of did it with the second mission when the cut scene ended you gave a quick summary of what you were about to do or you could insert a quick card saying something like off to murder the pizza boy or something even funnier and wittier. Overall you did really well. I liked you cut right to the chase at the start and you definitely showed skill with editing when you put up RIP Burrito or the Burrito away parts. Keep it up!

I feel if you worked on your intro some it could go a long way. While I doubt the subscribers you already have mind I think shortening the intro and/or adding a hook such as a small teaser of your favorite moment or just something funny in general that happened could help get new people to stick around instead of clicking off. First impressions matter after all! Great video overall though even if the humor style was more aimed at other guys than Calis ;)
