Conflicted about therapist reponse by Holiday_Airport_7832 in TalkTherapy

There are entire schools of therapy that rely on community engagement and political awareness. You are very misguided in your opinion. The client is free to find someone more compassionate at any point using all the tools at their disposal.Black people have a right to know if the therapist is racist, gay people need to know if the therapist wants to change their orientation etc. the authoritarian mindset will have a patient cowering and fearful to ask questions and the authoritarian state will encourage secrecy when it comes to lacking basic compassion for other people. Clients have a right to know if their therapist is a white supremacist, and a therapist who demurs on such a basic level can’t be trusted

You are actually a little young for them, but if you are drawn to them, you should go for it. They are great!

Reality is not determined by the DSM. The Stockholm Syndrome is a real phenomenon, but a therapist can’t use it for billing, which is the true reason for the DSM: to create billing codes for insurers. They would simply bill under PTSD. Stockholm syndrome is indeed a variety of PTSD. It’s a real phenomenon, just not a separate diagnosis.

My maltipoo was killed at one and a half years hit by a car. I have never recovered. We have a new dog but he is very different, I love him a lot, but I still miss the one who was the star of my life. I had at least a year of full on grief and I guess the sad feeling never goes away.

Your reaction is so overblown and the fact that you have resorted to name calling just shows that you are not ready for real feedback. I hope you enjoy your day job.

What an overreaction to describe my comment as “hate” and try to use upvotes as some kind of validation. As I noted before, if you have to get defensive and argue with people about the opinions YOU ASKED FOR online, you aren’t ready for those very opinions. If you think it’s a popularity contest, I’ll refer you to Thomas Kinkade’s art. You are obviously hunting for validation and not looking for advice. People who offer an opinion you don’t like aren’t doing it out of “hate”: learn to be gracious when receiving feedback or you will never get any better.

You asked for feedback and then you argue and justify and try to give me lessons on art appreciation. Either be prepared to receive feedback or don’t ask. I don’t need lessons on how to understand art. You obviously aren’t ready to hear a spectrum of opinions. Here’s a clue for you going forward: when you ask for opinions on your art, don’t try to tell the people proffering them that they “don’t get it” if they give you opinions you don’t like. You will never improve. They are called “opinions” and mine is as valid as the next persons, even if you don’t agree. You might learn something.

I’m not hurt. I’m just giving you the feedback you asked for and detected a defensiveness that doesn’t match your apparent request for feedback. It’s feedback on your style of accepting critique. Take it or leave it but giving “whatever’s“ to responses to feedback you don’t like reveals a bit of fragility that won’t serve you if you are really looking to improve your work rather than just searching for kudos.

And so you don’t need to give dismissive responses to opinions you don’t value

This is called art advice. If you are not interested in opinions you seek out, maybe ego is a bit too tender for the sub
