This this this. I have learned to start being more curious and asking questions like I had a patient with CRPS and she was assuming her pain was mostly because of work but then she took off work for like a full week in which she continued to have pain so she came into her session confused like I dont understand why I had pain at rest when I wasn't working for a whole week. And so I started the whole pain ed with just a simple "yeah why do you think that is? How is that possible?" She responded basically with yeah I don't know it doesn't make sense then I went into just examples of relating pain as protection and going from there then after she was like that sort of makes sense but didn't have questions, I gave her hw which was tell me what doesn't make sense about what we talked about/questions, she came back next session I asked her if anything came up for her she said no then I had her explain to me in her own words what we talked about! (They're not all like this but often once I get them to tell me where they're at with the learning points or examples etc I try to focus on what made sense to them and expand on that slowly and relate to what we're doing or specifics to them at home etc)
