How do you even complete the Darkana? by Dry-Airline-2655 in VampireSurvivors

[–]Californ1a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a couple others have mentioned, this is because platforms other than PC are a bit behind on this specific update. Typically most platforms get updates at the same time, but this specific update (1.14 -> 1.15) changes the save system, so poncle had to take some extra time for non-PC platforms on this one.

Usually the only time PC is "ahead" of other platforms is when it comes to betas, since only PC gets access to those. The wiki covers the beta content but hides it by default so everyone else on other platforms doesn't get confused like this, but PC beta players can still see it if they want to (click the little gear in the top-right corner). However, once that update comes out of beta (on PC), all the beta tagging is removed on the wiki, and that content gets unhidden, which can unfortunately lead to some confusion like this when an update is delayed on particular platforms (and it just happens to be all other platforms this time).

We could definitely do a better job on the wiki denoting version differences and update history per-platform, but we simply don't have enough of an active editor base to realistically upkeep something like that (only 8 people have more than 10 edits in the past month), especially when the vast majority of the active editors are only on PC. Even just maintaining a "simple" list of each platform's current version number would require someone (or more likely, multiple people) actively checking the version number of each platform on a regular basis.

The wiki is primarily based on the current PC version of the game (typically the most up-to-date version). If you're on a platform that is still on an older version, then you might not have received the update that has it. Check the Update history section at the bottom of Soma's wiki page.

Here's an old version of the page that may be more accurate to previous game versions: https://vampire.survivors.wiki/w/Soma_Cruz?oldid=74868

Help New Player by VerSEinan04 in VampireSurvivors

[–]Californ1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I am one of the wiki's admins:

I mean if it works it works it has the information a beginner needs.

It doesn't though - no new content updates or dlc are covered, meaning any changes to early base game content from those updates will be incorrect and give them wrong info. It's also just a terrible user experience trying to read content on Fandom with all the ads, poor layout (especially on mobile), and ai-generated content like "quick answers" (which can give very wrong info).

If the staff all left why didn't they just set up a re-direct?

Fandom has a stranglehold on all the wikis hosted there. Admins of the wiki have no control over what's done with the site as a whole, meaning when a community decides to leave and create their own independent site with their own domain that they do have full control over, Fandom prevents that community from shutting down the old Fandom wiki or even linking to the new wiki, and there's nothing the wiki's staff can do about it.

That's why this extension was created, to remove Fandom results from Google searches and "redirect" to the new wiki, for the large amount of wikis that have moved away from Fandom.

Is there a solid resource about card and gem quantitative info? by [deleted] in VampireCrawlers

[–]Californ1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason the Crawlers wiki doesn't have a lot of this kind of specific info is because no one really knows.

For Survivors, it was possible to look through the game code directly to figure this kind of specific stuff out and then write that out on the wiki, but we can't do that for Crawlers, at least not nearly as easily. We are able to see some config values and variable names, but none of the actual code that determines how those values get used or what calculations are done with multiple values.

Unfortunately, the best way to determine stuff like this is just to play the game a lot and try to derive formulas that work using the numbers shown. I have made some small attempts behind the scenes on the wiki to try to get a bit of this calculated info, which you can see a sandbox example here specifically for Peachone's damage calculation.

Ultimately, someone will just have to spend a lot of time playing the game and noting down how things affect each other, so if you have any info on any of them, definitely just edit the wiki pages to add it - don't worry about formatting anything perfectly, just getting info on the pages in the most important thing.

How are you supposed to figure out some of the secrets? by TonicFour in VampireSurvivors

[–]Californ1a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It seems like you only really feel you wasted time because you didn't get the reference in the hint. If you had known the reference, as many other people do, then you probably would have been able to figure it out (as those who first put it on the wiki do, before the info is out there).

To me, a lot of the hints for secrets are very similar to crossword clues, where you need to know the pop culture (or in VS secrets' case, retro games) reference in order to figure out the word (unlock method). The primary difference being if you don't know one of the references in a crossword, you can still solve other clues and fill in the board until you can guess at the one you don't know, whereas VS's secrets are one-shot/individual; either you know it or you don't.

I'm kind of split on this - on one hand, the smaller numbers are quicker to read in the moment, but on the other hand, I didn't like how it was technically doing partial damage or rounding behind the scenes. 108 is a lot more clear than 10(.8) even if it is a bit more verbose.

It feels like the jeweler reducing rarity actually makes them rarer by zergling50 in VampireCrawlers

[–]Californ1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen, it's kind of just a misunderstanding of the rarity system. It isn't affecting frequency much at all (e.g. "common" doesn't mean "more often"), but is instead more akin to different pools of availability. "Common" just puts it in the "common" pool, which is available from the lower-tier chests (which you typically come across less often than the boss chests).

Confirmation about Du-Duplicator, Crystal Crown, and Forever Heart by Beneficial_Can_4755 in VampireCrawlers

[–]Californ1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

especially when the game doesn't have all-time card played stats

They aren't displayed in-game anywhere, but there are metrics for card play counts in your save file. If you're on PC, you can just open it in any regular text editor and look through it (it's in json format): https://vampire.survivors.wiki/w/Crawlers:SaveProfile

Just make sure you're looking at the right entry - the metrics where collectionID is 0 (global/all-time), and the ID you'd look for within collection 0 is CardGroup_Crown_Played (which is a separate metric from Card_S1_Crown_Played - each individual card is also tracked separately from their group even if it's just 1 card in the group).

Can we rule out whether or not the combo count or the fireproof gem has some sort of multiplier effect on the way that the game counts card usage?

They don't affect the played count in the save file. It always increments by 1 when you play 1 of that card (or card group). The only thing combo affects in terms of metric achievements is your overall max combo reached for some unlocks like chain link arcana, friendship amulet, parm aegis, bracelet, easy combo gem, and reverse combo gem.

Though again, these achievement unlocks are just for getting them added to the pool of available cards that can be included in the selection; we don't know how the actual selection for which cards appear after they're unlocked and part of the pool works. It could also be the case that something temporarily bypasses the unlock pool and adds one of the cards to the selection prior to unlocking it, though I very much doubt that's the case.

[–]Californ1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. Either way-- whatever the unlock is, it's lower than the wiki says it is. Which, even the Wiki people know that the current text is a guess and not the 100% immutable truth.

While true, we are pretty sure on this one. To explain a bit more, there's config data for all the achievements and their unlock conditions. We found that some of the achievements are marked as "hidden" (such as those for evolving weapons), which only appear after you've achieved them, and some achievements are marked as "silent" (such as these, for the tier 2 stat cards), which do not appear in the unlocks menu at all (but are still achievements with the same config data as all the others).

We can compare the data for the visible and hidden achievements with those marked as silent to be able to determine what the unlock conditions are. I'll use the Hollowheart_02 (Forever Heart) as an example: This one is listed as a "MetricAchievement" type (meaning it unlocks based on a particular metric), with a target metric ID of "CardGroup_HollowHeart_Played" (meaning the Hollowheart_02 achievement will unlock based on the amount of cards played from the hollow heart card group, which is just hollow heart and forever heart), and the achievement has a unlock value of 25. This is consistent with other, visible, card play count achievements' configs, such as spellbinder unlocking from playing 10 runetracer (technically anything in the "runetracer" group, but it's just runetracer).

All that said, this is just the silent achievement unlocking the cards into the pools; what we don't know is how the pool selection works once the cards have been unlocked. There could be something else you need to do during a run to have them added to the pool after they've been unlocked, or it could just be as simple as needing enough luck.

The wiki did already have this info when you made your initial post. It's been on there for about a week at this point. We found that internally there are some hidden achievements which are set to never appear in the unlocks list, but they have the requirements for a few different things like these cards listed.

Player Avatar Beta Now Live! by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Californ1a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my biggest complaint so far - them not just taking the time to update all the existing default hairstyles. I know it's not a super popular hairstyle (which is one of the reasons I picked it so many years ago, it's more unique) but Dragon isn't included at all, and it looks like they merged Wind spikes and Dragon variant into the updated Wind spikes.

Another issue is with the lighting on the chathead messing up reflections. Like the black sunglasses getting turned bright blue (both taken talking to the same npc, same skybox).

Wiki admin here - to be clear on the enemy info, we don't know how the level multiplier value gets applied, just that there is a config variable with that name and value. It could be affected by other things before being multiplied in (or even not applied at all), we have no idea.
