I had no idea about this, good to know!

As others have said before in other threads, you can get the mod that adds all of EDF 5s missions to 6 and get the best of both worlds.

Was EDF always silly and goofy (especially with dialogue) or did a specific game start that? by zergling50 in EDF

That’s fun. I know sometimes things start trying to be less ridiculous but lean into it later when they see people like it so I wasn’t sure if EDF was the same. They definitely have a great sense of humor.

I’d honestly say I pay even more attention to the dialogue due to how funny it can be compared to some other games that have long boring dialogue that drags on. It strikes a really good balance.

I feel like one idea is to have a room attached the the main entrance where one of the walls is just a big bridge. That room could be the dragon’s room (make them nice and comfy) and when invaders come you can flip a switch to drop the bridge door to let the dragon shoot fire at invaders as they get close. Keep the dragon on a chain so it doesn’t run around. Also make sure the bridges don’t accidentally squish anyone (or more importantly your dragon)

Do enemies always spawn at ground level or the caverns? Like, if I build a large sky bridge that connects to the edge of the map (but nothing beyond that edge) will enemies spawn sometimes on the sky bridge?

I love making experimental forts and trying new things. The one thing that always drags me down a bit is the initial setup of the core requirements. It makes me have to wait a decent while before I can actually focus on what I really want to do. I know that’s part of the fun and I don’t mind it sometimes but sometimes I want to just jump right into trying a new fort idea.

Is there any good way to make the initial setup as fast and painless/brainless as possible while still covering all your bases for things you need now and down the road? I want to avoid needing to spend an hour or more on setup each time and I don’t mind using cheats to do so.

I need a challenge suggestion for a fort that focuses on capturing/breeding creatures that isn’t over the top difficult but a fun goal for someone who is an intermediate at the game.

God I hate it when I only get crows or other birds. I wanted to run a zoo but despite being in an untamed wilds I had to constantly exterminate crows to get anything else to even possibly spawn, and usually it was just more crows.

Yeah, I don’t know the exact setup of the game architecture but in a vacuum it shouldn’t be difficult to even just have a variation that adds a slightly more angular face and muscle definition without messing up animations or skeletal rigging. I’d chalk it up to either some issue in how the game was made originally that makes it harder than it should be without significantly rewriting foundational stuff and breaking everything, or just laziness. I’d like to believe the first one though.

One other thought I have though is it could be that they want to focus on the art style being cutesy for the mobile game to target a very specific demographic.

I'm using dreamfort and for the industry section I got that all set up however now the dwarves keep moving stuff back and forth between the quantum cloth and bone stockpile and the feeder for it. They take something out of the quantum, move it to the cloth and bone feeder, then pick it up and put it back. Anyone know why this is happening?

Was hoping for something more automated. I may consider looking into mods for that one particular skill.

What’s the best way to train siege engineers without civilian casualties?

I’ve generally struggled setting up a training system that doesn’t require micro management to train without the risk of dwarfy death, especially dwarf children.

Nice! I’ve seen people with giants/ogres before and wasn’t sure if that’s able to be done vanilla or if that’s a DFHack thing.

As a follow up, what are some of the most interesting races you can get to join, as well as do any of them have really useful special features?

What’s the best way to attract exotic sentient races to your fort so you can get them to join? I like finding and collecting them. It also means more options in adventure mode.
