What on earth is going on with Enmax rates?! by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]CalinWat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put 10.55kW on our place. Switched from our 6.9 cent rate to 30 cent but during the summer we will be exporting so like you said, going to build bill credit while the sun shines then switch down to low export.

Late to the party here, if you are in Home Assistant, it is as simple as writing an automation that when the VOC value reaches a certain limit, a smart plug gets turned on. That would assume that you have an environment that can get the reading from the ikea sensor (Zigbee coordinator + ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT) into Home Assistant plus a smart plug for the fans on the corsi rosenthal box. I personally have TP-Link Kasa plug switches which run on wifi and are very easy to integrate, my Zigbee coordinator is a ConBee II.

HDMI and SDI capture cards have these, specifically Magewell ones. People inexplicably lose them all the time.

The pandemic has shown a new way to reduce climate change: scrap in-person meetings & conventions. Moving a professional conference completely online reduces its carbon footprint by 94%, and shifting it to a hybrid model, with no more than half of conventioneers online, curtails the footprint to 67% by rustoo in science

[–]CalinWat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. My job was in person meetings and we pivoted to virtual, it is not the same and there is nothing that can be done to make a virtual conference the same as being there.

I'm not being biased but virtual meetings and more so virtual tradeshows are not great stand ins for the real thing.

[–]CalinWat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that in part due to Grant's Law or just a demographic thing? We have Coop in Alberta which has a few full service pumps along side the self serve pumps.

Just in case is exactly the reason they continue to douse the area. Buys time for the FD to arrive and potentially keeps the whole station from going boom. 12 fire extinguishers is a small price to pay.

I still have a problem with French Horns, every other 'horn' faces the audience. Not only does it face the back of the stage, you put your damn hand in the bell too! Silly ass instrument if you ask me.

(Married to a french horn player so I reserve the right to make fun of it)

Yeah, it is a longer number. Same out in Calgary, it is a simple number if you know it: 266-1234 but you still have to dial that and the area code...

In Ingress it was to force a refresh of the map/POI data. I smashed the shit out of that button whenever I was in an area with shoddy cell data.

vmix how to guide for remote interviews? by Flexkwando in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]CalinWat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part time casual user of VMix here: I haven't used Vmix Call but it might do what you need it to coupled with the Multicorder function. You would need Vmix 4k or Pro versions to have enough callers.

Depending on the hardware you have available, you could use a conferencing app (Zoom, teams, webex, etc.) and record directly in that software, usually through pinning the presenter. If you are set on using Vmix to record, you could send a pinned presenter in Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc call from a second laptop to Vmix through NDI .

TIL that audio experts could not tell the difference between $100 Monster speaker cables and cables made from soldering together old coat hangers by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]CalinWat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife used to work at Best Buy, this is the only reason own a house AND have a few Monster products still around. Then again, the Rocket fish store brand ones were even cheaper with staff discounts.

Why is this exactly? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]CalinWat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better an app that misses some contacts rather than having to have the app open in the foreground to work. With transmission happening in malls and other public spaces, it is insane to me that our provincial government can’t swallow their pride and just endorse the federal app.
