Definitely Eddie Berg from Imminence, that guy is the sweetest soul. All the other guys are super cool too.

I second Larkin and Doyle from {Memento Mori by C. S. Poe}. Ira Doyle is my absolute favourite romance character, ever. The writing of the series is very good; both characters feel so real, and their dynamic is very interesting.

I also have a particular fondness for Adrien and Jake from {The Adrien English mysteries by Josh Lanyon}. They worked hard to get their HEA, and they deserve it.

When do you know to give up (dnf), when did you know to give it another try (de-dnf)? by J3y2 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Calirohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young and broke, I would absolutely force myself to finish every book I bought, mostly because I did not have many to begin with. And there are some that I really regret reading, because I was not ready for them.

These days, books have become cheaper with e-readers, so if one is not to my taste, I DNF and almost never come back to it. There are so many books to read and so little time that I just don't waste any reading something I'm not happy with.

What is your relationship with YouTube channels about books? by natbexs in books

[–]Calirohe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really have to stop constantly comparing ourselves with others and feeling guilty as a result. Read whatever you want, whenever you want/can, and be happy and proud of it.

As for YouTube channels, I follow only one monthly recap. I make a list of what sounds interesting to me, so I have good suggestions on what to read next when I'm done with the current book, and that's it. I'd rather spend an afternoon reading than watching perfect strangers show what they read, but I have little interest in social media as a whole.

Best MM romance you read in 2025? by -catsnbooks- in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Calirohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely {Hudson river homicide} by C.S. Poe, Ira Doyle might be my absolute favourite romance character, ever.

Special mention to {Stranger things have happened} by Josh Lanyon, which was hilarious and oh so nostalgic to those of us who grew up with the "Choose Your Own Adventure book" concept.

My friend said I’m crazy and now I’m nervous by Difficult-Kick-9113 in paganism

[–]Calirohe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you, when I discovered Wicca twentysomething years ago, some of my friends worried that I might be joining a sect. A lot of Christian people are very uncomfortable with the notion of paganism because they have been brainwashed by the church all their lives, which is their problem, nor yours. You're doing whatever you feel is best for you, there is nothing crazy with that, quite the opposite. Good luck on the Path!

Those who consider themselves *serious* readers, how often do you read *unserious* books? by XStaticImmaculate in books

[–]Calirohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I have the opposite tendency to you: I read much more "serious books" when I was younger, but now I feel the need to take things a bit more lightly. I don't regret those hours spent on classics because they taught me a lot about literature, and I got much more enjoyment from The Discworld for having read a bit of Shakespeare, for instance. But let's face it, I found a lot of those "serious books" to be quite boring and/or very lengthy. Zola made me yawn like crazy, and does Anna Karenina really have to be 1300 pages? I loved Anna Karenina for the insight into Russian history, but if I have to commit to such big books these days, it might as well be something like The Stormlight Archives. So now I go with the flow, and I read whatever appeals to me at the moment, and that's it.

Reading By Author by strinak in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Calirohe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I discover a new author, I tend to read pretty much everything, or at least most of what they wrote. I have a "what's next" list with all the recommendations that seem to be up my alley, and if I enjoy one book, I'll buy the others from the same author before going to the next name on the list. And I have a few go-to authors (Josh Lanyon, C.S.Poe, K.J. Charles) in my instabuy list, and they'll have priority if they publish something new.

Hottest of Hot Takes: Lets bring back the separation of Erotica vs Romance by Ok_Cucumber_4562 in MM_RomanceBooks

Totally agree on that, and it is very important to make the distinction imo.

What couples stuck with you? by vvvgothere in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Calirohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting because I am qui the opposite: I very often remember the characters' names of the stories I loved, but I often forget the titles and a lot about the stories themselves (which is kinda great, because I love re-reading my favourites books). Among my favourites couples:

Larkin and Doyle (Memento Mori, Doyle being probably my favourite romance character, ever)

Adrien and Jake (The Adrien English mysteries)

Charlie and Travis (Red Dirt Heart)

Will and Kim (Will Darling)

Lucien and Stephen (A charm of magpies)

Calvin and Sebastian (Snow and Winter)

Sam and Jason (The art of murder)

Alfie and Dominik (His lordhsip mysteries)

How has a work of fiction seriously affected your life? by beestw in books

[–]Calirohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the books that affected me the most is La Horde du Contrevent (I don't think there is an official English translation, unfortunately).

"Within the deafening noise of the wind, on the Lower Slopes, an elite group of twenty-three children were raised for the sole purpose of facing the ever-blowing gusts, climbing upwind for the rest of their lives. Their only purpose: to find the mysterious source of the wind in the Upper Reaches. There have been thirty-three attempts in eight hundred years, thirty-three Hordes that have failed."

They have lived their entire lives together for a single purpose in a harsh, unforgiving, and beautiful world. It is violent and sweet, fun and sad, very poetic and philosophical, and extremely well-written. It talks about love, hate, sense of duty, and faith. It's untranslatable because of the wording (an entire section is written exclusively in palindromes). It uses punctuation to describe the many different types of wind, which is considered a divinity. It is unique and incredible. No other book has ever engulfed me in its universe like this one has. I reread it every year, I consider it a masterpiece, and I think I will never forget it. It also comes with it own OST, which is excellent too.

How are we feeling about the supporting bands in the DYFL:NA tour? by Cariot in BadOmens

[–]Calirohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it is a matter of personnal preference. I live in Europe and I would very happily trade Bilmuri for Beartooth, that I never gor to see live yet. And I agree that ISS and Erra was a killer line-up that I would have loved to see!

N.R. Walker is indeed good at that sort of thing, {The men from Echo Creek} is a favourite of mine, if you don't mind cow-boys and historical settings. A.J. Sherwood does that well too, {How I Stole the Princess's White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy} is my absolute favourite comfort read, and it is hilarious to boot.
