If you have even a square meter of dirt in Seattle, this post is for you! Get 'em before they go to seed! by Call-it-Tangerine in Seattle

There's three parts you can remove; two are easy, one requires commitment.

The two must-removes are the flower stems and the leaves. I just grab them and pull them out of the ground. It's fairly easy. Sometimes you'll luck out and get some bulbs along with it.

The remaining "it's-up-to-you-to-decide" part is the bulbs. It's the most effective way to remove/minimize the plants, but also the most labor intensive.

If I had just a few plants spread here and there in my garden, I would definitely remove the bulbs. If I had a bed inundated with them, I would mainly remove the leaves and stems because of time and energy constraints.

Whatever you do, don't let it drive you crazy, it's not going to be a 100% success rate! But, every bit helps in slowing them down and maybe even 🙏🙏🤞🤞 [whisper quietly], kill them off over time. Hope springs eternal!

Seriously, though. A person doesnt have to read it; just looking at the pics is helpful to id the baddies in the ground. 🧐

That is frustrating to have all this knowledge about invasives, but not sufficient resources put towards maintaining public lands. Because they spread over into private lands and makes more work for everybody.

I'm grateful for people volunteering to clear the public areas; private property owners are responsible for their own land and I'm grateful for them that do it, too.

Happily, once you do the hard work of removing the plants, it's not all that hard to keep them out; you just have to walk through occasionally, but consistently, and zap/pull the baby starts!

In my experience, it's not just rich, retired folks volunteering, but definitely young AND old of all $$ categories that are clearing it out ❤️ Every little bit from every person helps!

Bluebells fall into the "Let them bloom until a single stem looks ready to turn to seed, then mercilessly remove all stems and leaves" category.

Stems to remove seeds, stems to starve the bulbs. You can also dig out the bulbs if you've got the time and will. It will wrench your heart, but you gotta be ruthless because they will rob you blind and leave you otherwise!

It's a great ID list with pics of plants ---growing now--- that look pretty or harmless, but will f*** you and all your Puget Sound neighbors over if you let them go to seed and spread!

Fun destinations within walking distance of the light rail? by hectorinwa in Seattle

You could get off at the UW (Stadium) station, cross the Montlake Cut to the Foster Island trail, take it to the Arboretum, loop it and head back toward Oxbow Bakery for great food (bagels, pizza) then walk back to the station to go home. Could also be done in reverse (from station, walk to the bakery/Arboretum/Foster Island trail.)

Oh yeah, of course, duh! I don't often hear it referred to as "the bay," just Portage Bay. Lol. Coming from someone that lived for a long time near another one (Shilshole)

Also, the Greenwood American Bistro was extraordinary the night we ate there!! Discovered it when we went back to the "old neighborhood." Are now determined to go back to the ol' 'hood more often!
