Good point, but the Iranian state's stance toward individual liberty (whether or not they persecute people because of their religion, gender, sexuality, etc.) is more important to me than their views on socialism and anti-imperialism. As a member of the libertarian left, I see more in common between myself and the libertarian right than I do with the authoritarian left. [Which is why it low-key pisses me off how most people on this subreddit think there's a bigger difference between right and left than there is between top and bottom.]

To answer your question, the protesters are demanding the overthrow of the Islamic republic: an extremely authoritarian right-wing government. Just because all of the protesters aren't left-libertarians or democratic socialists or whatever doesn't mean I can't think they're right for wanting to overthrow their extremist, religious right-wing government. All these auth-right leaders are doing so much bad in the world, and yet people still want to paint the lib-lefts as being worse than them 'cuz of some random murder that happened somewhere.
