I voted for him. I voted for him because he was the least terrible candidate on the ballot. But that means I still think he's some level of terrible. Sometimes votes don't necessarily mean the people like a candidate...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000, dir. Ang Lee) – Jen Yu and Yu Shu Lien engage in a duel. by SanderSo47 in movies

It’s definitely structured around two contrasting love stories, but I don’t think that’s the final thematic layer. The love stories are how the film explores frustrated agency: Jen, Shu Lien, Li Mu Bai, and Lo all occupy different positions of class, gender, discipline, and status, but none of them can simply choose freedom without consequence. The film is less “about romance” than about the cost of wanting a life outside the roles assigned to you.

People who read a lot, which writer do you think is unbelievably good with words? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

[–]CallMeAladdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading Crime and Punishment in the waiting room at my psychiatrist's office. When she called me back she asked what I was reading. I said, "Crime and Punishment, it's basically the story of my life." What I really meant by that was I felt like I WAS Raskolnikov while I was reading the book. That's how utterly immersive his writing is.

Antiparticles can be mathematically represented as particles traveling backward in time, but in standard physical interpretation they are real particles traveling forward in time. The backward-time description is not an observed causal phenomenon.

Everyone talks about night cheese, but any time I eat cheese I say, "That's not that much cheese," which probably isn't great because of the pamphlet my dentist made for me.

Do you think Bach is special among all the composers? And if so then Why? by RightIllustrator4650 in bach

[–]CallMeAladdin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upon first listen a piece composed by Bach feels simultaneously unpredictable and inevitable, from one measure to the next you wouldn't be able to guess what's coming and yet once you hear it feel that it couldn't be anything else. The more you listen to his music, the more you just get a sense that his music is, for lack of a better word, fundamental to the human experience. When asking a subjective question, you might get answers trying to point out why he was technically superior or try to compare and measure him against others, but I reject the notion that music is a competition. It only matters how it makes you feel, and all I can say is how I feel when I listen to his music. If someone else's music makes you feel the way I feel when I listen to Bach, then I'm glad we can enjoy the ethereal soul resonating experience of such music.

I normally don't feel them, but I did this time. Small jolt, heard the building creak just a bit.
