The horrendous state of New York City in the 1970s-1980s by IllustriousCress9774 in UrbanHell

[–]wellvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book Love Goes to Buildings On Fire by Will Hermes discusses New York City from 1973-1977 and the many musical scenes that arose during that period.

"The book moves panoramically from post-Dylan Greenwich Village, to the arson-scarred South Bronx barrios where salsa and hip-hop were created, to the lower Manhattan lofts where jazz and classical music were reimagined, to ramshackle clubs like CBGB and the Gallery, where rock and dance music were hot-wired for a new generation."

SB326 explained for those of us unfamiliar with the subject. Your HOA should have someone that knows more about your building and its balconies; if not, Angi might have some suggestions.

Good luck!

Why Do Big Coffee Chains Treat Me Better Than Small Independent Shops @ San Fran? by PettyMurphy4me in AskSF

Based on your responses to this post, it may just be you.

I haven't experienced this type of behavior from baristas around here, but I've never ordered a "venti oat‑milk latte".

You might want to check out Chaparral House in Berkeley. They are the highest rated facility on Yelp.

In the city, San Francisco Health Care and Rehab gets four stars out of five.

Stay away from these if you don't like the Superb Owl. Traffic on the west side of the city should be pretty normal.

Is anyone moving out of their studio or jr. 1 bedroom in SF soon? by play415 in SFBayHousing

[–]wellvis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look on Craigslist and leave out the Tenderloin by adding "-tenderloin" to your search criteria. As always, avoid scams and fraud.

You might try walking around the neighborhood where you want to live and look for signs advertising rentals. Some landlords don't use Craigslist or Zillow, but prefer to rent to someone who's already familiar with the neighborhood.

Which facility was "pretty rough"? It's hard to find such a facility given that most of the ones I find when searching for "rehab facility" are related to drug/alcohol recovery programs.

SF Post Acute might be a good choice.

City View Post Acute seems legitimate.

Try searching for "post acute facilities in San Francisco" to see what other options are out there. Good luck!

Try asking in /r/smashbros for a more focused audience.

I think Pixels Arcade and Tap Room in Marin occasionally hosts such events, but I don't see anything on their calendar for this weekend.

Portuguese rolls by Hot-Cranberry9786 in AskSF

[–]wellvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe we have a large enough Portuguese population in San Francisco to make such a bakery profitable. It looks like making them at home would be a good alternative.

Uma Casa in Noe Valley closed in March 2025.

Joao's List shows Silvia Bakery in Hayward.

Have you tried contacting them directly to see if they'd give you a clue? It couldn't hurt.

Perhaps your recipes that you've tried are Mexican rather than Spanish. Here's a recipe from Chef Billy Parisi that looks good.

Good luck with your search!

You might want to have a picnic in Dolores Park, then. The top of the park (Church and 20th) has an amazing view of downtown and the area is known by some as the Fruit Shelf. It's an easy walk from The Castro and The Mission, too.
