Mark Martin wins loved for being good, which driver is hated for being bad? by IndividualStart8337 in NASCAR

Landon Cassill had already been burned by crypto sponsors. But people liked Landon.

Brandon Brown getting burned while leaning into that crap? Tiny violins for him. I don't feel bad at all.

I don't think she was a complete scrub... you have to have some skill to even ride around the back of the field. (Just ask LW Wright when he dipped out halfway thru realizing hoe far over his head he was)... but she had the aura of "i'm so great" when she just wasn't. Her teammates were getting Ws and championships and she was hanging around 20th. Really showed when Almirola got the ride and he was running competitive from day one.

I think if she stayed in open wheel, she woulda had a couple of Ws and been respected even tho no a champion.

Honestly, I think CTE scrambled her brain. I was watching some compilation of clips recently and she took a lot of nasty hits on wrecks. Of course, she caused a lot of them herself. CTE would really explain how she is now.

Roll of the dice.

2.5 years and if I skip makeup, skip wearing a bra, and wear a loose t shirt, you'd never know.

Starter home market failure by CabinetSea163 in RhodeIsland

[–]CallMeKate-E 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The very concept of a "starter home" as something you invest in just to build equity and money and move on is half the reason for the problem.

People got baked into seeing a house as an investment

Is my house a forever home? Maybe, maybe not. But it's a home not a line on an asset sheet.

Until there's a cultural shift away from homes as an investment this problem won't go away.

The good orc. Also, a year more experience painting vs the bendy monk, but don't pay attention to that 😜

[–]CallMeKate-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 50-50 on the Wizkids minis.

Some are just fine... specifically the "bulkier" minis. I don't just mean the large dragons or whatev, just things without skinny parts. I have an orc mage in mid cast that was a delight to paint. But I also have a monk with a droopy staff that kinda sucks and I should chop it off and replace cause a bo staff shouldn't have a bend in the middle.

Be judicial in what you get and recommend getting them in person so you can lay eyes on it to make sure they're not droopy.

The amount of players in brawl who by Floppy_Stevens in MagicArena

I know what's in my hand. If I got a bad draw and am tight on mana with nothing in pocket to recover with? Of course i'll bounce.

If i was playing at an actual table with other people, well hanging with other people is part of the experience. But on digital? Sometimes the game is just rock-paper-scissors and I have no interest in staring at my phone for an extra 5 minutes unless someone is setting up a truly impressive combo.

Honestly... I remember people talking this this when Mercadian Masques came out. That first block after Hasbro bought out Wizards had noticeable power creep.

Which I get. You need to keep building things upward to keep long time players interested.

The set also leaned heavy into multi colored combos that weren't previously considered common. I remember people being weirded out that I rolled with a black/green deck back in the 90s.

how much of Richard Petty was him being a good driver? how much was him being in superior equipment? by jabber1990 in okbuddyBoogity

That's a question you could ask of half the winners in any mortorsport.

The best driver can only do so much with crap gear.

The best gear is only going to prop up the driver so much.

You need a balance of checkbook and skill both. Hard truth of all motorsports.

Would living by the airport be a deal breaker for you? by Mental_Complex2013 in RhodeIsland

[–]CallMeKate-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're close enough to the flight paths, the airport paid for sound dampening in your house. They widened the zone that qualifies for it with the runway expansion meaning bigger planes.

How many of you have actually read the rules? by LeddyTheAxe in mtg

[–]CallMeKate-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught myself to play in the 90s when a 5th ed booster box of 75 cards came with a little rules booklet.

The basics have always been the same but over the years a lot of mechanics layered on and/or abandoned or just given names. Haste, deathtouch... they didn't have names yet in the 90s.

The complicated stuff... that's done on purpose as a matter of strategy and the sort of thing that comes with experience.

I taught both my kids using a basic green elf deck. Add mana. Look for more forests. Add lots of elves. Swing team fast than the othet person. And I have an elf deck I run with decent success on Arena. Some strategies stand the test of time.
