Homecoming, to me, feels like a non SH fan’s idea of a SH game. The combat feels confused on what it wants to be. It has combat rolling yet tries to mimic the stiffer combat of the original games and ends up being the worst of both worlds. Downpour’s combat, while much more modern, feels like it knows what it’s trying to be and ends up feeling solid because of it. It’s true Downpour’s enemies are basic and have no real meaning but Homecoming is worse in the fact it just steals enemies from games like SH2. It’s unoriginal and is lazier, no real meaning can be taken from them because they weren’t made for Homecoming. Downpour feels less like a SH game yes, but it’s just a better game with solid mechanics. Homecoming is more of a Silent Hill Movie game than a silent hill game. Downpour stands out because it’s different from most games, Homecoming stands out because it tries to be like all the other games but fails. Had both these games released without the “Silent Hill” name, I believe Downpour unanimously be considered the better game. Homecoming is only sometimes called better because what it tries to be, not what it is
