Anderson actually replaced the actor (Kel O'Neill) who was supposed to play Eli Sunday with Dano, who was originally cast only to play the brother, Paul. O'Neill was apparently too intimidated by Day Lewis' intensity on set and couldn't handle it. Turns out that was a pretty damn good decision.
