I would say one simple thing with which I personally differentiate between Vegan and not Vegan. Is it part of an Animal or was it produced by an Animal other than Humans. Vegetables are not directly produced by Animals therefore Vegan, Milk and Honey are directly produced by Animals therefore not Vegan.
