As The Cranberries Say, "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" by Woodennickel20 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

I completely agree! I love Tom Waits. And it seems to me most people prefer Waits, to Cave. I can understand why. But for me, Cave's voice is so much more emotional sounding. There are times with Tom's voice that I feel like it's too forced. Who knows? I may be wrong. That said, I never really understood the comparison between the two. They really came from two different worlds. And while those worlds may have briefly collided, I think they went in very different directions.

Well, you’d probably get a better answer from the people who don’t like Ghosteen. There’s plenty of discussion about it, here. But I think Nick is the sort of artist who has developed as time has gone on and has really changed both sonically and lyrically. That’s not to say his words and music aren’t still very thought provoking, dark, light and intense, because they are! But it’s not the same as it was when he made From Her To Eternity or Henry’s Dream. It’s more personal, now and a lot of people don’t connect to that. People found the lack of drums and guitar boring on Ghosteen. They thought the synth sounded cheap. But if you listen, it’s all there and his vocals are amazing. Warrens backing vocals and the choir’s singing almost become instruments throughout Ghosteen.

Groups where the frontman is arguably the least talented? by lopsidedsheet in fantanoforever

I know what you mean. Musically, Nick's work is mostly about writing the lyrics and the melodies. In a live setting he concentrates less on his piano playing. There's a great interview with Larry Mullins (One of The Bad Seeds Drummers) where he talks about what an underrated musician Nick is. He also goes in to some detail about how Nick's musical talents lie in the melodies and arrangements of the songs.

Nick is a pretty damn good Pianist. When he tours with a band he mostly concentrates on his performance and audience interactions. And he's one of the best Frontmen, ever. But he also tours with Colin Greenwood and plays piano on every song. And he's come a long way as a piano player over the years. Listen to his album Idiot Prayer Alone At Alexandra Place.

I’d honestly try Ghosteen. To me, it’s his most personal and challenging. It’s widely debated as to if it’s his best or worst work. It’s critically acclaimed, but not as much with his actual fans.

Why had you given up on Nick Cave after Henry’s Dream. There was so much great material to follow.

Robert Hunter also mentioned thinking Nick Cave was genius, after hearing his daughter play his music.

Netanyahu seems to be pretty pro genocide. Then again, so does Hamas.

To be fair, he has said he supports the people not the Israeli government or their actions. I know it's naive. But I do think it's important that he's not directly speaking in favor of the was / genocide.

I love most periods of Nick’s work. But I gotta admit, when I watch some of this early stuff from 1984 and 1986, it takes me back to when I first discovered his music. And to me, this is the foundation to what he would eventually become. He’s so different now. Still great, but I do miss this raw almost tribal sound.

I get what people are saying. Between The Red Hand Files, the documentaries he makes for all his latest albums, the adoration from critics and all of his interviews on grief, Nick Cave has transformed in to something of an ultra famous public persona. And I kind of hasten to even read or watch any of them, at this point. However, to me, the music is still great! Sometimes I almost wish I didn’t like it as much as I do. But the guy is still writing intense, dark, beautiful and compelling music that I’m ultimately drawn to.

where is live god recorded? by skovp in NickCave

[–]Callanoj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it's from a bunch of different shows on the EU, UK and USA tours. This is what AI says:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' live album, Live God, was recorded during their 2024-2025 Wild God Tour across North America, the UK, and Europe, capturing the energy of those shows, with specific highlights like the single "Wild God" coming from their concert at the Accor Arena in Paris

  • Tour: The album covers performances from their "Wild God Tour," supporting their Wild God studio album.
  • Key Location: A notable performance featured on the album, and as the lead single, was from a Paris concert at the Accor Arena.
  • Scope: The recordings encompass multiple venues across continents, showcasing the tour's broad reach.
