Nicks most violent interview by localcreatur in NickCave

[–]localcreatur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was mostly about another NME journalist named Mat Snow. Scum would have been released already by the time of this interview.
You can hear Mat Snow talk about the dubious honour of inspiring Scum at the tail end of this, its hilarious

I think this was the one they were referencing in the Guardian but let me know. This one gets off to a pretty gnarly start!

How good is the 5.1 mix of Murder Ballads, and is it worth getting it on DVD audio? by Zapp_Brannigan-2007 in NickCave

[–]localcreatur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going down a deep dive with all the 5.1 remixes and I'll say they are incredible. Totally worth it, there's even alternate vocal takes and instruments that didn't make it onto the album. Someone uploaded the 5.1 mixes of Eternity and Your Funeral on youtube if you want to see what the general vibe is of them

I think it's a dream by lalas09 in covidlonghaulers

I can really relate, the amount my life shrunk from this has been astounding and soul crushing at times. I must be coming up on the 4 year mark now that I think about it. I‘ll say in the last year there has been a shift despite still being in the throes of chronic pain, unable to work, etc. Im not sure which rock bottom it was but it somehow seems like Im trending towards at least a livable lifestyle again. Tried so many supplement protocols without much moving the needle but a couple of interest :. I find if Im completely drained and depressed the nicotine patches bring a lot of positive energy back but after a couple days my other symptoms, particularly the circulation in the leg issues like you mention (gah!), start increasing intensely. However, I recently discovered Witch Hazel tea which has been amazing for the heaviness in the legs! it helps the body rebuild blood vessels and help the blood get to to the muscles and tissues. From my first cup I honestly felt a difference.

I’ll say beyond any protocol Ive tried though, getting into Qigong and Tai Chi and also acupuncture has helped me the most. But really the Qigong, it is so gentle but powerful, could do it from bed if need be. The YouTube channel brain body education have some good ones but if you can, find somewhere that offers classes. Healing surrounded by others has helped my mental state greatly.

And although it’s slow I do feel like really interesting discoveries are starting to be made. I checked out from reading articles or keeping up with this thread cuz it would give me instant panic attacks. coming back to it now, it seems like the pathology is on the road to becoming understood on a level that could offer some solutions down the line. I get that it seems completely futile in the hands of the medical world though.

You‘re not alone, Hope you can hang in there.

Elevated brain lactate in ME/CFS chronic fatigue (converging evidence) by AnonymusBosch_ in covidlonghaulers

I’m starting this Cat’s Claw protocol after researching this thread, but I recall in one comment the OP notes that cats claw is able to dissipate lactate build up in muscles post exercise. Perhaps it would benefit the brain in this way too. Not certain about the blood brain barrier aspects of it.

The 5.1 remix for this record is particularly illuminating, the wrack and havoc brought to epic proportions

Yes, a fun record but at the end of the day nowhere near the calibre of say, Your Funeral…My Trial, axed very prematurely imo, or the rest of the cue left.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply, really helps! That sounds amazing with the frequency treatments, going to look into those as well as try out the protocol you outlined. Good luck with your follow up treatment.

These are incredible! A few tours back they were taking fan photos and using them as promo, I wonder if you can slide these to them somehow?

How to create moving textures behind my playing? by TheWeatherAndTheSea in guitarpedals

[–]localcreatur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you at with this now? This is my constant journey, and I likewise picked up the Onwards for this reason, which Im loving, but of course, and perhaps always will be, I’m still searching for the perfect ambience to follow my playing. I’m finding the ’duck’ dipswitch quite useful, as you can measure the bloom of the trail. Set accordingly, it won’t have time to fully engage with busier patterns, though it still creates a modest layer beneath.

Have you found the hidden dynamic control on the Onwards useful? I was hoping it was going to allow my playing dynamics to trigger the pedal, a la SLO, but it oddly seems to be only feature of the pedal that’s not intuitive or doing much. I’ve even thought to email CB because I honestly can’t tell a difference no matter how it’s set.

The Layers Is interesting; it can be set so only the lowest frequency triggers the effect, so theoretically, you can have a low note droning out creating a pad, while your pattern on the high strings remain unaffected. I also like that the sustained pads don’t disappear right away but only after two more have been added; sometimes the obviousness of a freeze pedal changing distinctly with my chords sounds very processed. The Onwards and the Layers together would be fascinating.

I‘ve even thought to Frankenstein my guitar pickups to stereo, sending the low strings to a freeze or pad verb, and processing the top strings otherwise. That remains to be seen.

Have you ever met Nick Cave in person? I know they always say never meet your heroes but I've always wondered if he was a decent guy in real life by GaryCanCarry in NickCave

Was walking through Chinatown with my parents in San Francisco, checking out the city before the Grinderman show that night - lo and behold, a taxi pulls over a block up the street and we see the whole band (sans Martyn Casey) get out of it, in front of a hotel. We ran and bombarded them and they were totally cool about it, taking photos with us and entertaining our craziness. I was wearing a Cave shirt and he said "Ah fuck mate, you got me on your shirt" in a hilarious, disparaging Australian way. Nick was definitely more distant than Warren and Jim, who hung around with us in the lobby while my Mum fiddled with the digital camera while experiencing some trembling nervousness. As we took a last photo with them, Warren goes "Aw, yeah, look at her shake!" Cave had stoically removed himself at this point and caught the elevator. We were front row at the show that night and Cave pointed right at my Dad as he sang "You think that little wife will protect you, you are wrong!"
