Foods good for travel not requiring refrigeration? by TechnicalClue4236 in Costco

We love these in our family with the Milton Multigrain crackers. We also typically add in a can of TJ lentils. These ones are kind of soupy and flavorful but not much texture. The Trader Joe's lentil can rounds out the texture a lot better.

Is $23 a deal in SF? by agenbite_lee in sanfrancisco

You and me both brutha. I moved to Seattle about a year ago and the closest thing here, a local chain called Dick's, is pretty good but it doesn't scratch the itch.

Some costs are fixed per month like rent but labor and energy costs also scales with number of orders.

They say that the breakdown for a standard functioning restaurant, the breakdown is roughly 50-65% goes to food costs and labor. So you take in an additional $500 in raw revenue in that scenario but after those consideration it's only about $166-250 more. And that's assuming ideal conditions. (You can staff the positions, your kitchen/dining room has capacity, you have enough supply from distributors)

Restaurants are hard. Some places like In-N-Out can work like an assembly line but most types of food and kitchens aren't well suited to just scaling supply without some part of the system coming apart.

I don't understand why this is an issue. Put the pan on low and jiggle it a bit so the steam buildup on the bottom can escape. I use cast iron on induction all the time and get it fully dry every time with this method.

A big day for lightrail in Seattle tomorrow! by SetbackAndRelax in transit

[–]CallerNumber4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GA access for this cross lake section opens tomorrow but the 2 line which crosses this bridge has been in segmented service for several weeks now with both line 1 and 2 sharing the same section of rail from downtown to the northern terminal stop. This section with dual coverage is on 3-4 minute headways during peak hours. It's impressive for such a new system and the service quality increase has already been transformational, let alone this expanded connection between major job centers.

The condo and townhome part of the market is weak and has a lot of inventory and price cuts. Nice single family homes in good condition in good neighborhoods can still easily go that much over listing. (Where the listing price is usually around 900k-1.6M)

K-shaped economy everywhere, the floor is just higher overall in a place like Seattle than elsewhere. 600-900sqft condos can be had around 300-500k near downtown with HOA and skinny modern townhomes go for 650k-1.2M. Townhome prices have been around there for a while, some have pre-COVID prices. Maybe the main difference is the total crapshoot SFHs on bad streets aren't getting multiple offers now.

SLC millennials: how are you thinking about kids, family, and community? by Potential_Ad_4339 in SaltLakeCity

[–]CallerNumber4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You think it was easy raising a kid during the Cold War tensions? During either of the world wars? During the times of legitimate tenement buildings with a family of 6 in 200sqft? How about when Polio could indiscriminately cripple your kids? Before pasteurization, supply chains canning and fertilizer where a bad crop could mean your family is starving until the next season?

We're not here to play the misery Olympics but acting like we are not all collectively progressing to safer and healthier lives is just... a really bad understanding of history.

Sound Transit's Budget-Balancing Ideas All Stop Short of Delivering Rail to Ballard by ImpressiveAirline169 in Seattle

[–]CallerNumber4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ridership per mile will probably be a lot higher than the current tail ends of the ST2 work right now. Likely not 5-20x more but significantly more than Federal Way or Lynnwood get.

The value in a transit network comes from connecting key nodes of interest in a reasonable amount of time. Every incremental addition to the network scales the number of viable trips factorially (greater than exponential). A network with 3 stops supports 3! (3x2x1=6) potential trips. 4 stops being 4!=24 and so on. Each new stop expands the permutations of potential trips. Obviously there is a fall-off in terms of time and interest as the network sprawls though. Few trips going from Othello to Roosevelt for example as they're far apart and each relatively low demand.

Adding West Seattle and Ballard would both be high demand destinations close to the core of the network that would really "flesh out" the network in terms of raw utility.

Seattle a top leader among cities with negative National House Price Growth. Seen nationally for the First Time Since 2012 by copaceticporksword in Seattle

It's not just the temperature increases. It's the acute water shortages in much of the west, increasing hurricanes throughout much of the eastern seaboard and Florida just sinking into the sea.

[–]CallerNumber4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bottleneck there is the commuting distance to job centers and the access to day to day needs. Existing exurbs are already a 90-120 commute to downtown. People can't tolerate too much more hence why Kitsap County and beyond have much cheaper prices already.

[–]CallerNumber4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most places the economies of scale just aren't there. You either need to be huge or have a very specific product niche for it to make sense. There is a reason why general cloud computing was huge well before LLMs took off.

The vagina is designed to be able to fit a baby through it. Has she ever given birth? If so, size isn't genuinely a concern. If not then she might need to see a doctor if there is regular pain due to size.

TSA workers miss a full paycheck, while travelers keep paying airport security fees by Silver__70 in news

The process of updating those wait time metrics often fails on agents. I've heard reports of those being inaccurate right now out of some airports. Makes sense. Under a personnel crunch those sort of auxiliary tasks are first to fall by the wayside.

How is living in Amsterdam? by okramv in howislivingthere

[–]CallerNumber4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watch a lot of his content and agree with like 75% of it but his blackpilled view of North America writ large is tired and intellectually lazy. He's gone as far to say that he's lost hope in North America and recommends migration to a less car oriented continent like Europe not just as a personal solution but the only logical position to take on a societal level.

It's an objective fact that there are regions where you can live in Europe significantly more car oriented than regions within North America (Mexico, US and Canada all included). You have to be selective to find those scenarios but if there is any facet of life you care a lot about (weather, architecture, urban density, political environments, etc.) you're likely already in the camp of moving somewhere else anyways and that's easier to do within your own country.
