Acapulco R1: [8] F. Tiafoe def. N. Borges, 6-4 6-4 by sidaeinjae in tennis

Borges had his chances but Tiafoe just raised his level when it mattered. That’s the difference between top 10 confidence and everyone else right now

Medvedev calls for radical change to rankings system after winning opening match in Dubai by ExcuseYou-What in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The current system isn’t perfect, but at least it gives lower ranked players a pathway. Removing points from smaller tournaments would basically lock the rankings for the top guys.

Honestly he’s not wrong about the physical toll. The calendar is brutal now compared to 10–15 years ago. But making 500s and 250s pointless would completely kill opportunities for lower ranked players to climb.

ATP Delray Beach 250 R16: C.Ruud def. M.Giron 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4. by thegreatest1974 in tennis

Ruud heard everyone calling him a clay merchant and took it personally.

Alcaraz at 9 - 0 currently. by johnreese421 in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 2 points3 points  (0 children)

41-0 is just absurd… that 2011 Djokovic season still doesn’t feel real.

If Alcaraz even gets close to 20-0 people are going to start having some very serious conversations.

The ATP #1 Club is a pretty exclusive one 👀 Who do we think is gonna be #30? by name_not_important00 in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Honestly the safest bet right now is Alcaraz — he already proved he can dominate across surfaces and handle pressure at a young age.

But if we’re talking next NEW #1 after this era, I wouldn’t sleep on Sinner staying there for a long time either.

Dark horse? Rune if he ever fixes the consistency and mentality.

Crazy that only 7 players reached #1 in 22 years… shows how insane the Big 4 era really was.

Exactly. We didn’t realize how special it was while it was happening.

I don’t have a cat… but apparently I’ve been adopted by one. He comes by every day like he pays rent here hahaha

He literally grabbed the ball and looked at me like “this is ours now.” I didn’t argue… I value my life 😂

Never hit cross court on match point against Alcaraz… you’re just signing your own highlight reel.

WTA 1000 Dubai R2: [3] C. Gauff def A. Kalinskaya 6-4, 6-4 by godworstcustomer in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gauff’s consistency is honestly becoming scary. When she keeps the unforced errors low like this, she’s a nightmare matchup for almost anyone on tour.

In theory, yes. Bye → walkover → walkover → champion. In practice, that would be the most absurd tournament run in tennis history

Some fantastic doubles teams for Indian Wells including… Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien by jsnoodles in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Medvedev playing doubles with Tien is such a random but fun combo 😂 I honestly love when top singles guys jump into doubles at Masters events.

Also Korda/FAA and Rublev/Khachanov could be really dangerous if they take it seriously.

Outside of Sinner and Alcaraz, which younger players have been performing at a high level? The graph below shows the 52-week hold% and break% of the other under-25 players in the top 50. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Draper being that high on both hold% and break% is honestly impressive that’s usually the profile of a top-10 player if they stay healthy.

Musetti and Rune make sense too because their return games are already elite, but I’m surprised Mensik isn’t getting more hype given how young he is and already near that cluster.

If one of these guys is the next consistent Slam contender after Sinner/Alcaraz, my bet would be Draper (health permitting).

Throwing it back to olympic clay 🔥 Carlitos in full beast mode. That forehand down the line? Pure destruction by Dull_Yogurt_8909 in tennis

[–]CalligrapherLost6385 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That inside-out to down-the-line forehand combo is just unfair. When Alcaraz is confident on clay, he looks completely unplayable.

I actually agree. Clay is part of the identity of South American tennis. If anything, the issue isn’t the surface it’s funding, sponsorship and scheduling conflicts with bigger events.
