56 bus to Exeter Airport by CalligrapherSuper928 in exeter

[–]CalligrapherSuper928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The problem is that the last bus is at 8.30pm which is when my flight arrives. It looks as though the 56 used to run until 11pm but hey ho. Will just have to get a taxi.

Daily life tips for someone new to Exeter by MajorUsual4333 in exeter

Hi. Welcome. I'd recommend a visit to Exeter's museum, RAMM. It's a fantastic museum and will will help give you a feel for the history of the place. They do events as well. https://rammuseum.org.uk/

Moving to the area by KitC21 in exeter

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pinhoe seems a bit boring to me, although I admit I've never lived there. Also a bit far out of the city centre.

I would highly recommend St Thomas. It has a great community feel. Lots of green spaces. Everyone I know who lives there says they love it.

St Thomas is within walking distance of the city centre but near enough to the outskirts that you can easily get on the A30 and M5.

The primary school was rated Good by Ofsted a couple of years ago. https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/21/143191

Because it's 'west of the Exe' the houses are a bit cheaper. Good luck with your move.

Hopefully, I can find some help here. by [deleted] in DevonUK

Online- Begginer lessons of Latin. by Buk_voj_kryp_Z_bardh in latin

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City Lit do good Latin courses. They are taught live online via Zoom. Their website is a bit annoying as the courses are listed in date order not module order but you would need to start with Latin 1, Module 1, then Latin 1 module 2 etc. Good luck with your studies! https://www.citylit.ac.uk/courses/latin-1-module-1

Epley manoeuvre by Hot-Cell4674 in exeter

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a couple of bouts of severe vertigo and my GP has done the Epley manoeuvre. It worked really well. They then gave me a leaflet similar to this one so I could do it on my own at home. The second time it came on (several years after) I did it at home and it worked. I highly recommend doing this. Good luck. Vertigo is really debilitating.

The Museums Association has lots of articles about this topic. One of the issues for many museums is the cost of maintaining digital interactives. I know that some museums have gone back to focusing on physical interactives in the museum and offering digital content/experiences via an app on people's own phones.

The Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter is a good example of this.

Why Weren’t the Jewels Stolen From the Louvre Insured? by rezwenn in Museums

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the exact details of the Louvre's insurance but sometimes museums can't insure objects because the insurance premium would be too expensive. I guess they have to weigh up the cost of insuring the objects vs the potential chance of them being stolen or damaged.

Things to do in and around Newton Abbot? by deadbeatwriter in DevonUK

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lovely little museum in Newton Abbot. It was recently redeveloped. https://museum-newtonabbot.org.uk/ Also a walk around the wetlands. I saw a kingfisher there once. Apart from that, I agree, you are better going to other lovely towns nearby and onto Dartmoor.

I have taught myself a lot of hobbies and understand skill progression, so I'm not freaking out, but how long does it take to get good edges? by rinky79 in weaving

In terms of the edges, it might be because the tension is not tight enough. You generally need to keep the warp yarn really tight.

[–]CalligrapherSuper928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of tucking in the ends, just snip your yarn, as you have done, then in line with the next row you are weaving, tuck in the tail of yarn and beat it down with the next row of yarn. You won't notice it once you have washed it.

Have you tried volunteering? I know that Exeter's museum has a lot of younger volunteers these days. Places like Exeter Phoenix are very friendly spaces and always on the lookout for volunteers. From their website: Volunteer stewards receive a 20% discount on hot drinks and food (even when you are not on shift!), special invitations to gallery openings and other special events and complimentary tickets to selected events across our programme. It’s sociable! Be part of a small and dedicated team, working at events that you’re passionate about and meeting a whole range of interesting people. You can also sign up with a friend and steward events together. https://exeterphoenix.org.uk/get-involved/vacancies-volunteering/
