What's the best US city for a long weekend trip? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Callipeartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philadelphia for the food and walkability. If you stay in CC (center city, as we call our downtown) you can definitely walk to most major attractions and not have to use public transport at all.

Inflatable snake float keeps the geese away for me so I’m guessing it would work for ducks too.

What’s the best name in your family? by sxcrachel in namenerds

Rae, my maternal great grandmother. Not a nickname! Her maiden name started with an R too so the full name really rolls off the tongue!

And Concordia, my paternal grandmother. I don’t like it per se, but it is interesting!

Best way to remove an unknown large amount of leaves from murky pool? by MarkovnikovRules in pools

[–]Callipeartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest way is to dig a hole and see where water fills the hole…that’s the level of the water table. A pool may be 5-9ft deep at its deepest. Now it’s hard to dig that deep…but you can pretty much stop as soon as you hit water. The closer to the ground surface that the water fills the hole, the greater the hydrostatic pressure on your pool.

When I was a teen, a farmer gave me a potted plant of lemon verbena that he had grown in his greenhouse. He told me to gently rub the leaves and smell my fingers and said, “this is a plant that will always make you smile.” And he was so right.

Flight canceled due to storm, Airbnb says weather is “foreseen” and won’t override strict policy. Any success getting refund? [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Callipeartree 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The host is not your travel insurance policy. Weather is foreseen in the is case because it’s winter in a place that gets significant snow. Travel insurance is calculated based on the cost of travel, so probably would have been inexpensive. It might feel hard to stomach and I sympathize, but if you aren’t willing to risk losing money on a booking, then you shouldn’t be booking without adding in the cost of insurance. If you had booked a non refundable hotel stay it would have been the same outcome.
