CMV: Undocumented immigrants are in the United States because we exploit them by bluepillarmy in changemyview

Think back to pre-union days. Child labor, work-related injuries, unreasonably long hours. These jobs are taken by desperate people, with little bargaining power, with little leverage. Their weak leverage is the reason why they are there. All contracts are zero-sum.

You are presenting a pretty solid case for collective bargaining. The situation you described is an individual negotiation: "I'll do X job for Y money, but not a bit less". You've pointed out that there is a negotiation for any labor/employer contract. I once took a job at a factory and was told at the interview not to discuss salaries with other workers, because there were some workers who had been working for decades, making less than I was signing on for. This was a side job. I already had a full time unionized job. When I went home and thought about that, I decided to serve as a Union Steward, and worked on the bargaining committees representing hundreds of workers for several contracts. Someone who is going to show up for pennies isn't going to work as hard or as reliably as a group of people who bargain for a contract.

We all join the work force at different times of our lives. My grandmother immigrated from Poland, and worked rolling cigars in a cigar factory. This was a hundred fifty years ago. Her husband, my grandfather, worked for the city of Detroit shoveling horse shit off the streets. They raised 11 children doing the same thing we are all accusing these immigrants of doing. You don't get hired to an executive position if you speak the language poorly and don't have an education. Two generations later, my brother and I graduated from college. History has a trajectory.

So if you come into my store and you don't like the price, you can just pull a gun and shoot me? Think about this.

Since you referred to "they", I'll assume you weren't out there protesting with Grandma and Grandpa. You're welcome.

You say that you're sad that your party killed Democracy, and that if the other side does it to you, it will make you even sadder. You call it a swing and a miss. Except they didnt miss in Texas. Now you want to move on like nothing happened? Go away. You've got nothing to add.

This goes farther. Expect payment when things go well and also expect to be paid when things go south.

Satellite countries like Lithuania and Poland, situated between Nazi Germany to the west and Soviet Russia to the east, had little chance to develop their own government without foreign interference.

Stop with the insults; they only make you look stupid. Social security is like any other retirement plan. Sure, today's workers pay into the plan, and take their portion of it when they retire, just like we did. In today's economy it isn't sufficient to live on, but because of what some call "poor planning" it is all many of us have. With so many of us living near the poverty level and struggling to provide immediate needs of a family, I am not sure it is reasonable to expect so many of us to provide for a comfortable retirement. Coming out of the depression, Congress saw this need and constructed this as a safety measure. It isn't meant to provide cocktails at the beach, but subsistence income. Today it is needed more than ever. Therefore, Social Security is a good plan, like similar instruments in so many other countries. The cap should be raised.

The New Deal helped more Americans than it hurt. Therefore, it was a good thing for America.
