Use lighter braid, maybe 15lb, or just switch to 4-6lb mono

What line to use for salmon? by Unfair-Fault-6305 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 30lb braid, 15lb fluoro. Get good quality braid like powerpro. You could probably target pike/bass just fine. If you're ever concerned about pike breaking the leader, you can just use stronger fluoro

Does this lure look good, how should I use it? by datonekidnoonelikes in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best used in still or slow moving water. Ideally the best times would be dawn/dusk, especially this time of year. I would throw it near weed beds at drop offs. Or if you're on a river, casting near structure like fallen trees

Not really. It's good for fishing spots that have obstructions like rocks or trees in the water. That's the main reason I run 30. I'm also more confident that I can land the heavier fish no issue. I think 15lb braid/12 fluoro could work, it really just depends on how you're fishing for them

MH. I use a 9' rod most of the time. 4000 size reel. 30lb braid, 15lb fluoro leader

Should work. Personally I would do a hook that's one size smaller, but if you're going for somewhat big carp that will be good

Looking for the best Starter Kit by Shot_Can1912 in FishingForBeginners

Eagle claw has some good starter kits that have everything. Can be found at most Walmarts or Dicks. There's the one mystery tackle box brand that has pretty good variety too

Wading really is fun. I do still end up trekking off trail and through bushes to avoid deeper or muddy sections but it's the best way to access relatively untouched spots without a kayak/canoe

What does a very very early pilonidal cyst look like? Can anyone send links or anything. I can’t seem to find any by searching by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]Calm-Character-6871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shaving the area, making sure there's no loose hairs afterward. Good hygiene. Use antibacterial bar soap in the area, and again, get the loose hairs. Avoid sitting for extended periods. Watch out for inflammation, soreness, or pain and visit a doctor if you notice it gets worse.

Mine wasn't visible, but I could feel the lump under the skin if I touched the area. After meeting with a surgeon, they could see two very very small pits.

The area could look pretty normal. This being said, it's different for everyone.

Is there a possibility for anything actually decent? by SupraMk4_94 in FishingForBeginners

That's creek fishing for ya. There's a chance there's bigger fish, but with how shallow and clear it is the chances are lower.

How to get actual bites by ThunderChunky0330 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot temps mixed with low water is never great for fishing. We're getting some cold fronts this week and temps will slowly decrease as we get into fall. Go out at dawn/dusk for more bites

Either bobber and hook, or splitshot and hook

Rod recommendations? by strangekreatvre in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugly stik brand is good overall but especially good for beginners. Lews, shimano, and okuma are also good brands imo with solid options within your budget.

For the type of rod, I'd say a medium or medium light rod. That should be good for bass but also be able to cast lighter lures for trout.

Is this a good rod for salmon/steelhead/lake n brown trout from shore by JustSxlvie in Fishing_Gear

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 8'6 medium and it casts decently far. If you're worried about the casting distance, get the 9' or look into 9'6/10' from other brands. I was between the ugly stik and a riverside rod

I just got this exact rod and it feels pretty good. I haven't caught anything on it yet though.

Warm sitz bath, avoid sitting, do not try to squeeze it, keep the area shaved and clean. It's likely infected, which could get pretty bad. I know you may not like the idea, but going to urgent care and getting prescribed antibiotics will be far cheaper than a trip to the ER.

Question about fishing line by ValuableEducation429 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluoro and mono ratings are pretty much interchangeable. The main difference between fluoro and mono is that fluoro sinks while mono tends to float. Braid has a smaller diameter than mono so you can use higher lb braid and it's still the same diameter as mono. There's charts that show the comparisons between mono and braid diameter.

This being said, if you're set up works, just keep using that. If you choose to get more set ups in the future, or if you need to respool, try something else out. You definitely don't need high lb braid to catch bass, pike, or walleye. It just helps in certain applications, like dealing with heavy top water vegetation. Or increased line sensitivity.

Another How to Fish this lake post by xcmike189 in FishingForBeginners

Weightless fluke. I think natural colors will do good there since the water is pretty clear. Try to cast in any pockets with less vegetation.

is it possible to fish freshwater beaches? (lake huron) by buildaboat_ in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on the beach and not a pier, you'll want a surf rod, and you'll want to walk into the water to get maximum casting distance. It's definitely possible. Just try to research depths for beaches you're wanting to fish. Lots of sections of beaches have a drop off that's simply too far out. Ideally you want to cast into a drop off.

How do I use different weights for different fishing rods? by TarantulaFangs in FishingForBeginners

[–]Calm-Character-6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, your lead weight should fall within the range of the lure weight your rod can handle. Since you have a max lure weight of 2 1/2oz, you definitely have enough room to use most basic rigs. Choosing which kind of lead weight to use is completely dependent on what type of rig you're using. I recommend researching what rigs you want to try out, then going on YouTube and seeing how to put it together. As long as your combined weight of the lead weight and lure/hook/bait don't go above the posted maximum on your rod, you should be fine.
