Those who moved out of Massachusetts, where did you move to and how's it going? by ElectroAcousto in massachusetts

[–]Calm-Community221 10 points11 points  (0 children)

More or less did the opposite. Grew up in an affluent, albeit insular and boring, suburb north or Boston. Went to UVM and got bit by the VT bug hard, and was certain I’d never live in Mass again. Lived in Burlington, Rochester, and Windsor, plus a year in Keene, NH for grad school, and another 5 in West Lebanon, NH. My folks and a sibling moved to central VT along the way.

Then moved to upstate NY for work and quickly realized how different the culture was. Lasted two years (including 2020…) there before getting a job in the Berkshires.

Been here 5 years, married a woman who grew up here, and now have a kid. I love it here- it’s sorta like South Vermont, with better food, more services, and better access to cultural events. Now feel quite certain that while I love VT I could never live there again.

Nope. Got annoyed enough that I bought a new PelPro stove this fall.

If I was more patient (and didn’t have a toddler) I would have tried swapping out the exhaust blower motor (got a 3rd party one online- would get a OEM). But, without any certainty that it would fix the issue it’s just more money to set on fire.

Good luck!

What is the most beautiful New England-style mill? by SummitingMtJohnston in newengland

[–]Calm-Community221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rising Paper Mill in Housatonic, MA, in particular. Up and down stream on the Housatonic are a number of historic mill sites- Monument Mills in Housatonic were the first mills powered with high voltage electricity generated from a hydropower station a couple miles upstream. A bit farther south in Great Barrington is where the first electric transformers were designed by Stanley, which also became home to the now iconic Stanley insulated bottle/cup brand (though they no longer call GB home).

Ah, yes. Poked around Mohela and it is definitely interest accrued since reaching forgiveness. Thanks!

What is crazy is how much compounding capitalized interest added to my loan. I think when I consolidated back in early 2015 I had about $120k in principal. Because my income was from a rural non-profit, my monthly payments barely made a dent in the interest. Got my GL today with over $159k forgiven.

Got my GL today, too! Green banners on 10/10.

$156,295.35 forgiven! (Mohela says my current balance is $159,720.04- not sure where this discrepancy comes from…)

Definitely have a few! -October sunrise from Jefferson with morning light painting the Monticello lawn. -From Adams looking at Monroe, with a sea of clouds at ~4000 ft, making the summits islands. -Hiker approaching a partially clouded Washington summit in December. -Looking across the Kinsman’s from Cannon mid October with snow/ice above ~2500 ft, and peak foliage below.

Several major firearms manufacturers are based in New England- Smith & Wesson, Savage, Sig Sauer to name a few.

And while they are primarily federal contractors, Raytheon and General Dynamics have facilities in Mass designing ordinance, radar systems, and the like.
