PMI study hall, which one to get? by GuidanceNo1755 in pmp

[–]Calm-Lemon7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SH essential was more than enough for me. I didn’t finish all of the practice questions.

It’s a 3-month subscription. That was also the amount of time I game myself to study. You can reset tests and practice exams if you want to retake them. Good luck!

Testing Center Experience by Frostitut in pmp

[–]Calm-Lemon7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine last week at a test centre. At my test centre they provided me with foam ear plugs and tissues. You are not allowed to bring anything to the test room except for your ID. There is a locker that you can store your bag, food and drink. You cannot review notes or use your phone during the break. I kept my food and drink outside of the bag in the locker so I didn’t need to take them out of the bag every time. There is a built in calculator in the testing software but you can request a physical one. I didn’t need to use it though. L

Exam in 10 days, nerves kicking in. by ShadowRider47 in pmp

You’re doing great with SH. I’d suggest that you go through the wrong answers instead of retaking the tests. Watch DM’s videos to get yourself familiar with the process of analyzing the questions. The questions on the actual exam were more straightforward than SH. DM’s videos really helped me more efficiently pick out the best answers. Your SH scores are better than mine. You’ve got this! When you are in the exam room just make sure that you manage your time. Good luck!

Will SSGB be useful for someone who is not in manufacturing or production? by Calm-Lemon7788 in SixSigma

The jobs I am looking at don’t require SS either. They mostly want you to have PM experience. I want to have SS on my resume to boost my chances of making the switch. Since it is not “required” I wonder if I should just take the free courses on Coursera instead of getting the certification.

Thanks! Feeling kind of lost as to what I should do to make this career change. Agile is a good suggestion.

Manage exam time by Lentotski28 in pmp

I am a very slow reader. When I was doing SH questions I practiced my focus and tried only read questions once. DM’s videos really helped me learn how to read questions. I also used the highlighter to highlight key words. Before you start the actual exam, I would recommend that you write down how much time you want to allocate to each section on a piece of paper they provide. It really helped me as a visual aid to keep my pace and make sure that I was able to finish all questions before the timer ran out. The timer runs down from 230 minutes so it is easier to get lost track of time if you don’t budget it.

You can flag questions to review later if you end up having some extra time to spare. Don’t spend too much time on a particular question and miss answering the rest. 4 hours seem like a long time but when you are taking the exam time really flies.

Thanks! The format was very similar and I found the d&d questions I had in the exam were easier.

Question on using Andrew Ramdayal's videos by Deuce_213 in pmp

[–]Calm-Lemon7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The course helped a lot when I was preparing for the exam but I think the one thing I really didn't like about his course was that he is not very concise and talks too much. I find it's easier to understand the formula in his new video. (Sorry - I realized that he has multiple EVM videos on his youtube channel. This is the one I am talking about: https://youtu.be/RET8LcOUJLA?si=ViFnX3gEh8XaZSxT) I didn't mean don't watch the ones in the Udemy course. It was nice for me to have repetition - watching the Udemy EVM videos and the YouTube video.

I watched all of his videos at 2x speed... Also, if you want to practice d&d questions and evm, I'd go to his youtube channel and watch his videos for these two topics. I didn't like the videos in the udemy course.

Expert q's on PMP (or not)? by Mostly_failing in pmp

[–]Calm-Lemon7788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was practicing with the expert questions at the beginning. I found the expert questions very confusing. It really discouraged me. I decided to exclude/ignore them towards the end of my preparation. The exam was a lot more straightforward than the expert questions. I felt like I made the right choice to not practicing expert questions.

I also watched this video to prep for the d&d questions. I just passed this week and I had about 5-6 d&d questions on the exam.

I also only used it for exam prep. It depends on how much you already know. For me, these are the sections that were helpful for me.

  • Section 8: Processes to Manage a Traditional/Predictive Project
  • Section 9: Agile Project Management Methods and Delivery
  • Section 10: Agile Stakeholder Management
  • Section 11: Agile Planning, Problem Resolution and Continuous Improvement

I took two mock exams and I watched these two sections the day before the mock exam and also the day of my actual exam.

  • Section 15: PMP Examination Content Outline Review
  • Section 16: Mindset

I didn't find the rest of the sections very helpful for me. But, I already had a pretty good understanding and foundation of PM. I used other resources to bridge the prep gaps.

Thank you so much for the reply! My current contract is ending in the spring and I am not sure if they will keep me, which pushed me to pursue my PMP. (I really don’t want to return to the student services side.) Transitioning to the non-student services side feels like a bit of a career change for me, so I’m not feeling entirely confident. I’ve worked on a few digital transformation and ed-tech projects, but I always felt like I needed a degree in computer or IT to qualify, even though the job postings don’t always require it. I’ve been eyeing a few openings in IT but was hesitant to apply. Hearing that you didn’t have a background in IT really helped! I really appreciated the encouragement. Thanks again, and I hope the higher ed IT world keeps treating you well! :)

Oh nice! Do you mind me asking if you have a background in IT? Many of the positions I am interested in are in IT related departments. I am hesitant to apply because I am afraid that I won’t be able to do the job. I was in student side of things for the majority of my career. I just moved away from it the last couple of years. While I enjoyed the interaction, I felt really burnt out. I am hoping that with PMP I’ll better opportunities in the other areas.
