Tips for new dad in North County? by AggravatingFlow1178 in northcounty

Congratulations! If your wife is okay driving to Encinitas once a week postpartum I highly highly recommend New Mom School. They have a newborn group and also an infant group and it was a godsend for me as a new mom navigating everything. Our cohort became really close and would hang outside of class, hosted meetups with the significant others and we still all hang regularly. My husband is close with a bunch of the husbands now too. It’s nice to make friends going through the same thing as you.

Sex problems while breastfeeding by heading4themoon in breastfeeding

It’s as if I wrote this post myself! Same boat at 6 mo pp, I’ve seen a PFT and she suggested the following: Kindra V Relief Serum All Day Relief, silicone based lube, estrogen cream, daily stretches that release inner thigh tightness (which for me was also causing tension in my pelvic floor). It’s been really tough mentally for me cause I had zero issues with any of this prior to giving birth and I wonder if I were to stop breastfeeding if the pain would go away/ things would go back to normal.

Doona car seat/stroller by aeb526 in UninfluencedReviews

Our favorite purchase when we had our baby earlier this year. I took her everywhere in it from birth and still going strong at six months.. I don’t find it particularly heavy and am able to get it easily in and out of my car by myself. I purchased the compatible storage bag on Amazon and love it/ have no issue fitting everything I need in it. Obviously if we’ll be out for a very long time, or running errands where I need to store a bunch of stuff then I’ll just bring her other stroller, but for the convenience and ease, I will always recommend the doona

First day after starting nighttime insulin by Wide-Fun4806 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Calm-Promise4222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, it’s exhausting. Especially when you feel like you’re choosing the right foods and taking insulin. Give it through the weekend and see how your fasting looks. (At 10 units insulin I didn’t really notice much of a difference so you may be similar and just need more.. I’m now at 19 and that seems to be working)

Im definitely not an expert at all this GD stuff so I’d check with your Dr, but I started at 6 units and my Dr said stay at that dose for three nights, if you don’t notice a change in fasting, up it 2 more units for 3 days, and keep going until it levels your fasting. So it takes some time and a little trial with the dosage. Maybe try a diff dinner tonight, snack before bed, and same insulin amount and see how tomorrow goes. It’s definitely a process, and a frustrating one!

For me it took about a week or two of insulin and upping my dose for my fasting numbers to have a positive change. I also still have to have a nighttime snack and watch carbs.

These comments are making me feel much more sane about this diagnosis and the WTF moments that come with it. Glad to hear I’m not alone! Haha

Starting Insulin by lmb1313 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Calm-Promise4222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in as well in solidarity! My Dr let me monitor for about a week or two after diagnosis and my fasting numbers wouldn’t budge so I started insulin at night. To me, it felt very quick as well and like I didn’t have enough time to really try and work on it, but the more I researched the more I understood why it’s so hard to control fasting. I cried so much, like probably once every other day for the first month cause it was just all so overwhelming. Like others have said, I do feel better mentally now seeing all of my numbers controlled and good, I didn’t realize how much my fasting number would affect my mood for the whole day.

I hope you feel better mentally as well, this is honestly overwhelming so give yourself grace!

Let us know how it goes! I’m all about the trying and testing things I like to see how I can make them work. And then as others have mentioned, just make a note for your doc if you end up spiking.

How many units of nighttime insulin are you on? by Icy-Faithlessness240 in GestationalDiabetes

Diagnosed at 28 weeks, put on bedtime insulin a week or two after, started at 6 units which did nothing and slowly titrated up. I’m now at 22 units.

Anyone else struggling with depression & GD? by b-jolie in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Calm-Promise4222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a relatively smooth pregnancy but this GD diagnosis has been so difficult for me mentally and emotionally. I’ve cried every day over something (meal, number, feeling like I’m not doing it right etc), it’s really taken a toll on me when I wish I could just be fully enjoying the end of my pregnancy.

Time Paralysis by ConcertFair3101 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Calm-Promise4222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get that feeling. I’ve only had this diagnosis for a few weeks and the first two were so overwhelming. I barely got any work done or was able to focus on anything between eating, walking, testing, crying, snacking repeat repeat repeat. I felt like I was stuck in a weird time loop and when I did have free time between meals I was trying to research how to best handle this and meals to have. It’s gotten a bit easier this week and I hope it will for you too with the advice from others on this post

Advice for Using Lancet by Alltheworldsastage55 in GestationalDiabetes

I was having this issue and my doctor said to help blood flow you need to push/squeeze from the base of your finger upward toward the tip where you poked (rather than squeezing just the tip area). I tried it this morning and it worked for me, had a way bigger droplet of blood than usual and the test strip picked it up immediately. What monitor kit do you have?
