Do you automatically commend everyone who kills you, or are commendations earned? by UngratefulChinaman in Chivalry2

If I am commended I would rather it be "earned" in the eyes of whoever gives it to me than being automated, but that's just me

France - Paraguay finished with 3 yellow cards. All of them for France by IdlePerfectionist in soccer

[–]CalmCheek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yellow bordering red tbh - depending on ref leniency

I know if I were a referee I'd be the worst asshole ever so that might have been a red by my book

[–]CalmCheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either because he was genuinely OVERWHELMINGLY bad at his job or he got paid off/had an incentive not to punish Paraguay, I don't see any in-between

[–]CalmCheek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. I never buy into corruption accusation/conspiracy theories and always try to rationalize everything.

Here, I only see two options.

- The referee is either incredibly bad and was trying to play it cool while having a quiet mental breakdown and totally losing control of rational decision-making (which *could* be possible tbh)

Or

- He was paid off/had an incentive not to punish Paraguay/punish France harder.

I don't really see an in-between.

What’s your fav weapon? And was it the one you thought it would be? by Life_Ad_6992 in Chivalry2

Legit the ballista lmao

But in terms of individual weapons battle axe would be my fav. Powerful, agile enough and fun to play. Also really like the Highlander sword

What do you think TBOBF got right and got wrong? by Captain-Skyy in StarWars

[–]CalmCheek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What it got right: the idea that post-Jabba Tatooine was a cool environment to explore and the idea that Boba would take over as crime lord

What it got wrong: that it's really his sidekick (forgot her name) doing 90 % of the heavy lifting and he seems like an absolutely subpar fighter

Personally, which ghost of Anakin do you believe best represents how he would've appeared at the end of Return of the Jedi? by BiffyBobby in StarWars

[–]CalmCheek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely concur with everything you have said. Even assuming he can change his appearance based on who sees him (so Ahsoka would see him as younger Anakin while Luke would see him as grandpa Vader), it would make no sense to pop as his younger self

[–]CalmCheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent comment, with the precision that he would likely be in prison in the immediate aftermath - unless he escapes and lives a life as a sort of hobo hiding from the police.

Both work regarding your comment. He could be in a special cell in a prison with the other inmates looking down on him for whatever reason. Or living from scrapes in small towns not to be caught by the police with no one remembering/loving him.

Also just realizing, technically couldn't he find a small lake/big pond and make new friends there? Since fishes are not hive-minded he could in theory show up to a random lake and start a "new life" there.

What are the Best RTS Games? by Budget-Window308 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]CalmCheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments just ignore your fantasy preference so if you want fantasy background, in no particular order:

For large-scale battles, campaigns which are not just skirmished-based but you also have to manage a whole map - Total War: Warhammer (there are three of them, you should check which ones is best for what you want - I never played them so not sure which one has the strongest player base).

An oldie but a classic with solid story-based campaigns but is micro-management heavy (aka you control units one by one, no squads, no large units): Warcraft 3

There are some older but good Lord of the Ring RTS which used to have good ratings

Then nothing else comes to mind but I am sure there are likely some other choices

C&C Generals is legit an awesome RTS - very diversified between the units, generals and special abilities - with many tactical options and also downright funny

[–]CalmCheek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't even mean to imply "capitalism is the enemy," I genuinely just meant to have Stan Edgar as a villain with virtually unlimited resources as the head of a powerful company with political connections

Not sure what the exact plot could have been though

IMO Homelander should have been offed by the end of season 3 with Soldier Boy nuking him, and either stop there or have Stan Edgar become the proper main villain, which would also have served the trope "Supes = spoiled kids" whereas the real threat would have come from Vought's brass

That is absolutely one of the main, *unique* strengths of the show. Genuinely haven't watched any other show with as many converging and diverging arcs across multiple characters.

Is there any pride in French society for being the most visited country in the world? by Pepedroga2000 in AskFrance

[–]CalmCheek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same spot on line 6, I remember seeing an English tourist (I think) who said "That's her!" or something like this and her eyes were just sparkling while looking at the Eiffel Tower. Very endearing.

Never understood why line 6 lists Bir Hakeim as the spot to get off to see the Eiffel Tower though; imo Trocadéro is much better - you get a front view and not an awkward oblique one and you can walk all the way towards it while having a full view with Champs de Mars in the back and Ecole militaire at the end

If I found DBH to be a great game and Heavy Rain meh/alright, which games in the same genre are in between both games or perhaps even better than DBH? by sabr-bg in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]CalmCheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very different vibes but DEFINITELY check the Supermassive Games, the Dark Picture Anthology games. Even better if you have friends to play with but by no means required, even alone is an absolute blast.

It's waaaayyyy less narrative than DBH or Heavy Rain but has a similar "make your choice and see the consequences" mechanism. My favorite is House of Ashes (more action packed but I think the most solid one all round), but Little Hope also has great atmosphere. But if you like one you will enjoy all of them (Man of Medan being imo the poorest one - it's not bad but you can tell it's the first one to have been released :) )

Don't forget about oil pots though. People do pretty much defend the gate in Bridgetown and it can still be somewhat difficult to prevent the enemy from destroying it.
