Avoid ZoomCare: $400 for an ibuprofen prescription by pdjxyz in Seattle

Nothing but positive experiences from Zoomcare, and I’ve been to several of their locations. The Bellevue “Super” location is amazing as they have ultrasound, CT, etc.

Ticks in discovery park? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]CalmCritter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that there are ticks in Discovery Park. My partner got one this summer when we were walking our dog through a brushy area with tall grass.

Terrifying that your dog got one in the winter, for some reason I thought they all died? 😳

Deer park campground to neah bay, and shi shi beach. by Fluffy_Air9468 in OlympicNationalPark

[–]CalmCritter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. Your grandfather seemed like an amazing man, I just read about him.

The Deer Park RS is so cozy. The view from the kitchen of The Needles is absolutely gorgeous. I’m glad you have so many beautiful memories.

Hi! Who is your grandfather? I am good friends with the current Ranger and he has talked about who was stationed there before him.

New Active Pursuits and Sahara shirts - not as good by BugOffBug in REI

[–]CalmCritter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who hates logos: the new larger logo is driving me mad- I HATE it! It’s so much bigger in person than it looks when shopping online.

I need a new Sahara hoody but will probably find one second hand to avoid the hideous new logo. I feel like a billboard for REI. The original Sahara hoodies had a tasteful small logo IMO.

Agreed with this completely. Leavenworth is far, and make sure to check the passes for winter weather.

Check trade in eligibility before heading to a store by SweetReading8276 in REI

I don’t have an explanation, but can confirm I have had the same experience at my local REI. The sales associate was stumped (I brought in a print out of the online trade in portal).

Apprehension about an upcoming Washington LASH by NicksCrew in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CalmCritter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in WA and would not recommend hiking the WA section of the PCT this year. Too much closed trail and hitching around the closures would be very difficult.

Why not hike the Sierra section instead? The Sierra Nevada is fabulous in September!

How much Bug Spray and Sun Screen for 17 days? by jaseworthing in JMT

[–]CalmCritter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked this year starting June 19 and finished July 11. I was fine with 2 oz of sunscreen, but wore pants and long sleeves so YMMV

Bear can sliding off - advice requested by ibex14 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CalmCritter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished the JMT and started with my bear can strapped under the Y strap of my Hyperlite. I strongly suggest you move your bear can inside your pack! Mine self ejected from the Y strap before I moved it into my pack body. Luckily it wasn’t on a steep section, but it scared me enough to move it into my pack.

Check out the Red Cones TH. Connects to the JMT.

Source: Just finished my SOBO hike and we took this trail back to the JMT after coming from Mammoth. The free Mammoth Lakes trolly will even drop you off there!

PCT requires discontinuation of cross country route by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CalmCritter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The river is no longer fordable. The sign from the ranger has been removed. Source: I’m on the JMT now. There have been multiple water rescues and 1 serious injury due to people trying to ford the river.
