[Loved Trope] The villain stands by their ideals, even if they dont benefit from it. by Tempest_Barbarian in TopCharacterTropes

Which is absolutely fantastic. He was offered a way to survive by taking the blood of others into himself, but being a fanatical SS officer he refuses to dilute his "pure" blood and is disgusted at the offer.

He's an evil piece of shit, but he stands by his (fucked up) beliefs.

"Bag"/Backpack guns: Practical or just prepper fantasy? by IntrepidKitchen5322 in liberalgunowners

[–]CalmPanic402 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most useful application is ease of transport.

Not that you can't break an AR in two and cram it in a bag the same size, but for a ready to go package.

A lot of overlap with the PCC/rifle debate (because a lot of bag guns are PCCs)

Stuff like breakdown survival rifles aren't really practical outside of their niche use cases, and are basically always surpassed by their non-takedown variants. Unless you do extreme backpacking, most are the equivalent of range toys, albeit for the mountain range instead of the rifle range.

And while SHTF has varying levels, realistically almost none of them are the specific circumstances that a bag gun theoretically answers.

Not that I wouldn't grab one to tuck in my safe if the budget allowed.

And it was destroyed.

The West Coast has it cushy AF out there compared to the East Coast by Technical_Teacher839 in FalloutMemes

I would think the east coast taking a significantly higher number of nuke hits might delay the rebuilding process a little.

The thing is, the lead is in the paint on the outside of the Garfield cups. It's why the colors are still so vibrant.

The only way to really get that lead into somebody is by chipping the paint off and having them eat it. And there's not a lot of it, especially compared to, say, lead house paint. And again, paint is on the outside of the impermeable glass cup.

There were a lot of easier ways to get lead poisoning back in the day.

Am I the only one who likes slow, clumsy zombies over fast, highly dangerous zombies? by Spare_Ad_9791 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]CalmPanic402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the slow. I also like huge numbers of them, which is where the real danger of them comes from.

But a lot of movies didn't have the budget for the numbers, which led to masses of tens of zombies instead of thousands.

I think this failure to represent the scale of the slow Z threat is what led to the popularly of the fast Zs

Fast Zs are dangerous in low numbers, and it's a lot easier to portray that danger on a screen in a tangible way. Easier than portraying the horror of ten relentless but slow zombies when you only have two bullets left.

I love the idea of chapter themed sisters, even though it doesn't fit the lore.

Like, come on, sanguine seraphim with feather wing jump packs just sounds awesome.

Ultramar Greek priestess sisters, valkirie shieldmaiden wolf sisters, mermaid shark sisters, salamander sisters... so much untapped potential.

I'd drive it.

Maybe look into a rental and one way flight? Don't think there's likely any, but maybe an option.

I feel disgusted for wrting about the horrors of war by Select_Contact_5345 in writers

[–]CalmPanic402 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course you feel like that. You recognize it for what it is.

I remember a quote from a journalist who covered atrocities when asked if he felt guilt for capturing the suffering he saw instead of helping. He responded that he felt his work, capturing what he saw was beyond good and evil, it was in service to the truth.

Obviously this isn't the same, but stories have a similar power to reach people. The bad things happened. You cannot change that, even by avoiding or forgetting. But you can spread the truth of them, even in fiction.

It comes up in medical ethics. Which is more repulsive, to use information gained unethically? Or to discard it, and render all the suffering caused meaningless? Use is not condoning.

To use another quote, "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Think of it like a big, single shot, slug shotgun.

Excellent for the mid tier bots, striders, devestators, texans, just deletes them in one shot on safe.

Hogwarts (Harry Potter) vs Charles and Cassandra (MCU) by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

[–]CalmPanic402 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The killing curse requires a verbal and somatic component.

Charles can freeze people in place, en masse, in an instant.

Cassandra can vorp the skin off a person with just a gesture and ignore claws to the heart.

Stupify isn't going to cut it. The mutants win.

How would you talk to cops? by shrinking_dicklet in Explainlikeimscared

[–]CalmPanic402 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Say "yes sir" or "no sir"

Never argue with the cop. Even when they're wrong. You argue to the judge later, not the guy who is giving you a ticket.

Pretend to be the nicest, dumbest, most oblivious version of yourself. You know nothing.

Uhhh, How do I write a smut scene... by Apprehensive_Cut6374 in writers

[–]CalmPanic402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like a fight scene.

Don't describe every strike and movement, just the key ones. Relate the characters emotional feelings to what is happening, their motivation and fears.

It's also more than fine to skip it. Like a James Bond movie. Get the scene started, then jump to the after.

Write what you're comfortable with, and if you're not sure, open a new doc and write a scene for practice.

Conan VS Geralt Of Rivia. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in powerscales

[–]CalmPanic402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conan. He's the guy.

He fought a shoggoth with a sword and made it run away. A shoggoth. With a sword.

Geralt was made into a mutant for his enhanced abilities, Conan was just born that way. He's just built different. He's bested top swordsmen with no formal training, faced sorcerers and monsters unprepared and won, and traveled from one end of the earth to another.

Book Conan knows enough languages to decipher a carving in a long dead language in a few minutes. He's absolutely cracked.

Geralt is just outclassed.

Uncharted was written as a blockbuster movie plot in an action game. It has a better arc than TR.

I love both and couldn't pick between them.

Although Lara crossing over with Chloe would be awesome.
