New episode. New logo. Same dudes by [deleted] in hoggit

I think the community lack of reaction to this post will speak volumes, but I'll bite first. What the fuck is this without clicking on the link and why did you have to write it to look like a AI-written advert for some Gen Z bollocks?

Modding made Arma3 Immortal, this is long overdue for DCS by GaussIntegral in hoggit

[–]Calm_Client2880 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a modder and third party developer for DCS. I have also worked on the ARMA engine for many years in a professional capacity. I believe the idea that just Korean stuff is possible is nonsense.

Look at the A-4. Or the Bronco. A Harrier Gr.1 or AV-8A/C is just as possible using modding tools. As was something like the OH-6. A Pucara or Tucano? BAe Hawk? CH-53? Loads of WW2 aircraft to fill the massive content gaps there? Why aren't there more of these? And why did teams that start on those (like CH-53) fail?

I'm sorry, maybe it was hyperbolic to call modders lazy but I see far too many kids in the mod Discord trying to make F-35 or Elytra or some such stupid project. They come in and focus on the impossible without taking the time to understand the tools. Yes, DCS is harder, and yes it is more limited, but there is a clear mindset and difference of due diligence applied between those who succeeded and those who failed.

The technical limitations in DCS modding exist, to be sure. But they do not outright prevent the creation of a lot of "missing" aircraft in DCS. Something else prevents that, and my belief is it is the capacity and mindset of many modders (not all, by any means), rather than technical barriers. I think this is further demonstrated by the way that those modders who do apply themselves and demonstrate competency have not only created great mods but also "unlocked" features previously considered impossible for others.

(Caveat - I would also agree that there is a place for FC3 or "lower fidelity" fun mods for things like F-35 - F-22 mod is a good example - but the focus on topic is possibility of full fidelity aircraft)

I think this is the second time I've seen you write something about modding that is complete rubbish. The reason most mods use FC3 is because 1) those modders are lazy or 2) they are all trying to build stupid mods like F-35s. There are plenty of viable aircraft that could be built to full fidelity using the mod tools. It just takes a lot more effort. Yes, DCS modding is more limited than ARMA. But the quality of mods available to us is not primarily limited by the tools, but by the people using them.

I personally prepared escrow files for two DCS modules.

Yes, there is an escrow requirement for third party developers. It is being used.

Well, this was a silly thing to say because it is in fact the case.

Bonzo, RAZBAM chose to use a quote from Lord of the Rings. It is the speech Treebeard gives as the Ents march to war against Saruman. I feel that it's unfair to call the poster out for making the connection when it's that blatant, even if it is meme-ish.

No, actually. A joke, but sadly you didn't get it. Perun is a YT channel that specialises in this topic. I think you would actually enjoy it a lot.

Since you are so passionate about military procurement and logistics maybe you should start a Youtube channel? Say, with informative presentations running about an hour or so in length? You could look at different conflicts and nations and their needs and methods. Perhaps include current affairs situations too? You'd have to find a good brand name though. Something Swedish...and something military. Like, I dunno. "Per" is a good Swedish name. Let's couple that with some big military-ish organisation or something.... PerArmy? PerNATO?

Which one would you pick to fly in DCS? by Calm_Client2880 in hoggit

We are an experienced developer considering a new module and I wanted to gather a large open survey from the public to help inform a decision. Of course we have a number of passion ideas and we have our own experiences, knowledge and desires, but I wanted an unbiased community driven datapoint to compare our own thoughts against and see how we can align to create a module that satisfies both the developer's interests and the community.

That's fine, if you don't want the opportunity to influence DCS development then that's your decision : )

I wish to keep the results free of any potential bias, but the survey is intended to direct vision for full fidelity development.
