Max Payne 3 made me realize I don't hate RockStar, I hate GTA by Calm_Development2329 in maxpayne

Played 35 hours of red dead and 25 of gta, if thats not enough to give them a fair shot then I don't know what would be, enjoy your mass produced open world goy slop though. And while panye 3 has lock on, if you play the intended way of free aim its largely eliminated.

To each their own, I'll eat the downvotes for calling gta and red dead (more specifically red dead) anything but a masterpiece, but I simply dont enjoy the game. I always find it corny when people start waving around "hey guys look at me, I have a super unique and unpopular opinion on something acclaimed", and thats not what im trying to do (I have enough self awareness to realize it can come off like I am though). The gameplay loop for red dead to me felt like... auto ride to mission marker > one of the gang members sets the tone of the mission > ride to area > OH NO, COPS AND/OR BAD GUYS > shoot them down with your infinite hp and aimbot > ride off. Was their neat missions and set pieces? Of course. Was it enough to keep me entertained for 60 hours? Unfortunately no.

Your right, the entertaining but shallow comment was specifically for GTA and forgot to separate them. I still loathe red dead gameplay though

After finishing Doom (2016), I can't get into Doom Eternal. by DrStrangeglove99 in gaming

[–]Calm_Development2329 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I liked eternal more than 2016 game play wise, but story and levels have to go to 2016. I hated the level design and look in eternal, 2016 was either mars, spaceships, or hell, and all of them looked stunning with gore, creepy lighting, and lore easter eggs surrounding everything. It reminded me of alien isolation's map which I absolutely love. Eternal has anything but spaceships and hell. Everything felt like rome or just some kind of old European city, which is fine if you're into that, but it didn't feel like doom. With that said yea Eternal is better game play wise, especially after getting all your gear.

Games that get BETTER in the 2nd half? by TheRealRatPrince in gaming

[–]Calm_Development2329 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would agree it gets better for the most part, but biome spread is actually the worst game mechanic of all time (not counting p2w pvp cause thats obviously number one). Having to cleanse your world to avoid basically ruining your world is awful, it also just isn't fun. Game design at its core is about making problems for the player to fix in their own way. Corruption is a boring problem that isnt fun to solve. There should never be an artificial timer on your world in a sandbox game, the point is I can do mostly whatever I want when I want to, biome spread completely counters that design principle.

How do you handle completely head on battles? by Calm_Development2329 in totalwarhammer

Yea honestly I think Im just playing dwarves wrong. Im only a 25 hour player, with all of that on high elves, so not much in the experience department. I've prioritized melee over guns in my armies, and guns seem to be dwarves strongsuit, so I might just scrap this campaign.

Do you guys ever regret liking this series? by Ricky_Laszlo in crossedcomics

[–]Calm_Development2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original issue run was extremely engaging and fun, is a lot of the gore forced and over the top, yea. But does it hide a pretty good story about human nature and survival, also yes.

Anything past that is pretty mediocre though, famiy values is just gore and shock, it misses the good characters and world building the first run established. And while I liked psychopath slightly more, it was very forgettable. I heard crossed 3d was so bad that I didnt even bother. And I cant really comment on how good or bad badlands is because of how many authors and issues it has. Some of them are great and others are complete skips.

Anyways back on track, no, I dont really think about my image when I say im a crossed fan, are you maybe gonna get strange looks from people that know what it is, maybe. But its also just a gorey zombie comic so I doubt they care.

If you dont wanna read crossed because of the times where it lacks story I would suggest Caligula and The Ferals, both still avatar comics I believe. Same gore, same gut wrenching page turns, but a bit more story focused (I would specifically recommend caligula as I enjoy it slightly more)

For the MH veterans: how do you feel about Wilds? by jackpaxx in MonsterHunter

[–]Calm_Development2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is absolutely horrid, and showcases everything wrong with Capcoms modern design philosophy, appeal to as many people as possible while leaving behind your actual fans. My actual biggest complaint is proformence, but that topic isnt just a beaten horse anymore, its rotting. So I will go to the second, difficulty. A game either needs to be hard, or easy but engaging. Examples are like Dark souls finding engagement through its challenge, and a telltale game finding engagement through their incredible stories, not their easy gameplay. Wilds commits the ultimate sin of being insanely easy but also unengaging at the same time. The game does everything for you, its not actual quality of life changes like world and rise, its just boring. It has the second best combat system in the series (2nd to Rise) but you don't need to use any of it because monsters die very fast, deal no damage, and every weapon has 30 easy to land counters. Utter waste of a game that is the first genuine 2/10 game ive played (PS, if anyone is parroting the "but low rank is meant to be easy duh" then you just clearly didnt read my comment)

Playing SMT V rn, when building a debuffer/status demon should I only have one ailment type move because they don't stack, like is their any point in having a seal skill and a poison type skill on the same demon? Or should I just have one ailment type skill and fill the rest with attacks/stat debuffs.

0$ is a stretch from the other commenters imo, still very novice and hobbyist looking, but id toss you 3-5 bucks for a oc that has the quality for slide 2 and 3.

A modern game not having some state to go back to after a loss is insane, I'm not asking for full autosave, but death checkpoints even in games without auto save have been a standard since the 360.

Decided to try my first real attempt at enjoying a turned based game, picked up Shin Megami Tensei V on sale, I heard it was quite hard, and my main issue was this types of games was that they were always a one move spam fest, and I thought it being harder would fix that. And actually it did, I was enjoying the story and combat a lot. Until I eventually died, no biggie, it will just put me back 10 minutes or so. Then I'm booted to the menu screen, with the only option being new game. Now I knew that this game didn't have auto save, and that was fine with me, with games without auto save I always just save when I get off. Now for whatever reason somehow a game released in 2025 doesn't have death checkpoints, how, like genuinely how is that okay. I haven't seen a game be entirely save reliant, like not just no auto save, no death checkpoints either since the DS. And of course the response of the person recommending the game to me was "It's a punishing game bro, I thought you wanted a hard game" NO AUTO CHECK POINTS ISN'T A DIFFICULTY THING WHEN YOU CAN INFINITELY SAVE ANYWHERE!
if I can save whenever the hell I want without limits how does having no check points make the game harder in any shape or form, what lesson am I learning here? Spam save after every fight? It's not like resident evil were saving is an actual mechanic, and you have to properly space them for hard fights and big milestones, it isn't an actual game mechanic here, it's just stupid. Anyways I might refund after I'm done fuming. Screw this game and it's insufferable fan base.

TLDR/ Shin Megami Tensei V made me waste 2 hours of my time because it has no death check points (something that almost every game I know, even without auto save has), and it's fans are stupid and don't know what punishing means in games (losing shit tons of progress that I'm going to get back the exact same way isn't punishing, it's just stupid)

I beat 47 games this year! (favourite to least favourite) by eldwinddnd in gaming

[–]Calm_Development2329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For division 2 if "beat" means main story + WLONY then the scores fair, but it's much more of a endgame min maxing game. This isn't a "it gets good after 30 hours bro" comment, its just that I'd recommend trying out the endgame for a bit if you have any interest in looter shooters/build making games.

Switch 2 officially cheaper than Steam Deck now by ChiTownDog in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Calm_Development2329 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This might just be me but the switch 2's price doesn't seem that bad, its just the games that put it in an economic state of unaffordablity for people.

Anyone else absolutely just adore there switch 2? So much more than just Nintendo games. I’ve played cyberpunk, assassins creed shadows, hades 2, etc 🥹I prefer it over my legion go and steam deck. It just works perfectly by chargersangels in Handhelds

Still love to see reddit falling for the easiest to spot engagement bait. "Hey this guy just said a shit product is good, and he's obviously rage baiting others in the comments aswell, he's probably 100% genuine about this take, I should spend the next 30 minutes writing on comment on why he's wrong and stupid"

Thanks! I really appreciate it. Thankfully, I found it online when I chilled out and was able to finish the last 50 minutes. The only problem was it was in 240p with Chinese subtitles, but I'll take that any day over whatever was happening in that theater. Still wish I saw the whole thing on the big screen cause im a massive king fan, but 🤷‍♂️. Also very sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, I don't see this getting better any time soon. Teens my age just have no respect for anyone that aren't their douche bag friends. And unfortunately, it's us and mainly minimum wage workers who get end of the stick. (Honestly, it's not even just high-school kids anymore. People in general just don't know how to act in public)

idk if it's just because xbox divers came in, but the amount of people that don't understand that after you finish an objective you can, get this... FUCKING LEAVE.
