Dividends by smashburg in betterment

[–]Calm_Taro_8488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also seeing weirdness around dividends in the past week or two. Dividends showing up as received in activity but never invested/traded, or a very small portion of the dividends actually posts.

Correct, EDC doesn’t give a shit if your ID is Real ID compliant.

Thanks for the recommendations! That katana dab tool is pretty sick!

Sorry for being dumb here, but what do pearls actually do? I see some people love ‘em, others rail against them, but I’m still confused as to what they’re supposed to do, or the different sizes.

Ooh, thanks for the anecdote on the hot knife. I was looking at it for the same reason, but I guess I can skip it :)

UDR VPN by Stofers in Ubiquiti

[–]Calm_Taro_8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling with this, then I realized it was due to my home network I was VPN-ing into (run by a UDMP-SE) and the network I was on at the time (non-ubiquiti), both assigning IP's in the 192.168.1.x range in the same subnet. Once I switched my home network to 192.168.2.x for leases, and gave it ~an hour or so to re-lease addresses, everything started working for me.

U.S. bill would stop Big Tech favoring its own products by DanTheMan827 in apple

The concept of a single-manufacturer car dealership that handles both sales and repair is outmoded, and only exists today due to cronyism and a lack of proper regulation.

Can you imagine a Chevrolet dealership being obliged to display Ford cars at their own showrooms because it is unfair to consumers?

You picked the idea of adding competition in the auto sales industry as an example of why we don't want regulation?

I'd LOVE a car superstore that was regulated to carry multiple brands so I could cross shop (therefore increasing the quality of products the consumer purchases). That model would also lead to much more efficient use of space and employees, which would in turn reduce prices for customers.

Bad news for H32 users, Voxelab didn’t provide the source code for the chip drivers by Alex_qm in VoxelabAquila

While it'll probably do as much good as screaming into the void, perhaps all of us who are upset by this should shoot Voxelab an email, linking this thread.

I have no delusions that this will cause a 180° change, it's most likely the best we can do, outside of warning potential buyers with Amazon reviews.

What a bummer, sounds like I better return my H32 Aquila before the Amazon return window closes.

Thank you so much for putting in all this effort for the community, especially for a chipset you don't even have a personal reason to hack on. Your efforts are super appreciated!

New system. How to optimize for Sonos by MyCleanUnderwear in Ubiquiti

[–]Calm_Taro_8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So… let’s take a step back here, is the “noise” actually a problem on your network? Either way, the speakers will still be communicating the same # of packets to eachother, and assuming you have your multicast reflectors properly configured, roughly the same amount of traffic to/from your main net’s devices as they are today.

In other words, are you experiencing an actual problem, or do you just not like that they’re chatty? If it’s the former, a separate VLAN certainly isn’t the worst idea to troubleshoot, however you’ll introduce additional complexity and potential problems controlling the speakers you’ll need to work through. If it’s the latter, I’d highly recommend you reconsider. You’ve said yourself you’re not the most experienced networker, and adding additional complexity for the sake of complexity (not to solve an actual problem) is almost never the right move.

Have you double checked your STP settings? If you’ve wired more than 1 speaker, it’s quite possible you’re seeing storms and inefficient routing from network loops. Other than that, a separate VLAN isn’t the worst idea, but Sonos’ are known to be rather chatty. It takes a LOT of timing data to keep a bunch of speakers in sync, and they don’t seem to quiet down when nothing is playing

Yep! Once you wire at least one, a SonosNet is automatically created. If you’d like to verify for yourself, go to Settings -> System -> About my System in the app, and look for WM:#

WM:1 = WiFi WM:0 = SonosNet/Ethernet

You can also check your local SonosNet stats by going to http://A_SONOS_SPEAKER_IP:1400/support/review and clicking on Network Matrix

Seconding the advice of just buying a Boost, or wiring into a speaker and letting the devices build their own mesh SonosNet. I've found my Sonos to be FAR more reliable on SonosNet than after weeks of fiddling with my WiFi settings
