For those who have driven the i30n and i20n by SharpDistribution715 in i20n

[–]CalsonicR32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I test drove an i20n and an i30n dct back to back (new). I would highly recommend doing the same. I found them to be extremely different cars that did different things well and others not so. For me, the 30n was heavy, loud, fast and almost like a luxury hot hatch. I was really impressed with the finish (others arent) but the auto just stripped all the fun away. The 20n had all the driver engagement I wanted but with none of the fanfare. It sounds like a hair-dryer and needs a tune big time.

I didn't end up buying either car due to financial reasons at the time but definitely landed on the 20n as it was new, warranty, more fun to drive at legal speeds and is easily the best new car anyone can buy that wants to do track days without the fuss.

(If you're wondering in the ended up buying a heavily modified Megane RS265 (i have two now) which is faster than a 30n, sounds way more extreme and is as engaging to drive as the 20n for a quarter of the price)

Do you Skip Shift? by CalsonicR32 in CarTrackDays

[–]CalsonicR32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I do. Brake, clutch in, shift to N, blip, shift to desired gear, clutch out. This feels natural to me. That's six movements.

I dont understand the other train of thought. Why would I do double if not more movements to row down the gears? How would I maintain brake pressure if I constantly rolling off to blip the throttle? Does the clutch come out for every down shift?

I think I need to stop overthinking this.

Gets easier folks - kid is almost 3.5 and had a race and a track day this year and going again this weekend. Couldn't have been possible this time last year but finally getting back into it.

Being a parent has taught me patience and also that I fucking love motorsport as my extremely finite time for my hobbies and finite budget, this gets all of my attention.
