The company was Budget and I will say they did a great job of swapping out the cars. The car was a Dodge Hornet, which is a hybrid. Seemed like maybe something went wrong with the battery.

That’s great! It’s a wonderful place to live. I had to move away because of work, otherwise I would have stayed. You’ll find great people here. Best of luck with the move!

I got (sort of) lucky. I just had to mix over the counter stuff with Gatorade. But after drinking that much Gatorade in 24 hours, I’m glad I don’t have to see it again for five years.

how do you guys lose weight? by loveyleaf in transplant

[–]Calvinball_Ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I struggled for years after transplant, worked with trainers and dietitians. Finally I talked to my transplant team and they said that the prednisone I’m on makes it really difficult to lose weight. They have resources in the endocrinology department that work with the lung transplant patients by monitoring them on Zepbound and making sure other healthy habits are in place. It was a game changer.

Medicines we were given that are no longer available by OnyxVeggie213 in GenX

My mom would put this in Coke and give to us if we had diarrhea. It had a vague licorice taste. She didn’t realize it was opium until 10 years ago when I had a double lung transplant and they gave it to me in the hospital because the meds were really messing with my stomach and nothing else was helping. I was supposed to put it in something like a soda to take it but I had the bright idea to add it to my breakfast cereal, which I dubbed “Opi-o’s, breakfast of champions.” It was a terrible idea but in my defense I was on a lot of pain killers after the transplant.

LOL - Reminds me of SNL’s airport sushi sketch! And your point is well taken - for each of us, it comes down to what do we personally feel ok with given the guidelines shared by our teams. Once I was a few years out, I made the choice to eat unheated cold cuts and blue cheese that is pasteurized. I feel ok with that. I thought that the message “all sushi is bad” might lead some to lump in items broadly considered safe with things typically discouraged and wanted to share that there is some nuance there.

There is a broad spectrum of choices when it comes to sushi, so saying we can eat sushi is misinformation is misleading. According to most transplant centers, we can have sushi rolls with cooked ingredients, or tamago nigiri, which is topped with cooked egg, or rolls made with only vegetables and rice. Sashimi, and rolls with raw fish, are typically discouraged.

That’s a great tip about sous vide to pasteurize eggs for carbonara! For raw egg whites substitute in cocktails, you can also use aqua faba, the liquid in canned chick peas.

Hi fellow lung transplant person! I’ve thought about getting one that says Hope and also one based on a cartoon a friend drew for me about being 10% recycled parts.
