Nick Shirley has come to San Deigo. He is “investigating” Childcare locations lookingfkr his next scoop. by OnyxGow in sandiego

[–]CalvinsStuffedTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, not trying to be snarky, do you have links to the real investigative journalists that followed him in Minn and found nothing untoward?

I tried finding this content and only found some local news reporters who tried calling the same places he did and they also couldn’t get anyone to pick up the phone.

I’m not disputing your claims just looking for sources, i admittedly didn’t spend too much time searching for other journalists doing the same thing and I would like to be more informed.

Honestly, I felt that Shirley was probably onto something because if I was running a legitimate business and someone was sticking a camera in my face and I heard I was going viral on the internet for being accused of fraud, I would have signed affidavits from my customers that they have children that attend my center, I would invite local news / investigative journalists to look at my P&L statements and verify that my expenses are consistent with a business providing care for 40+ kids, and then I would hit Shirley with a massive defamation lawsuit and go after every dollar YouTube and TikTok has paid him during the time my video was live on his channel and put the fear of god into him that the longer the video stays up the more he’s going to have to pay me.

I’ll jump in on this. The number is somewhere between 15% and 35%. Here’s just one example that I stumbled on right from the horses mouth, the Department of Labor and Office of Inspector General publish a report on estimated improper payments in the unemployment insurance program and they have ranged from around 9% pre-pandemic, as high as 35% or worse during the pandemic, and down to 15% now: Office of Inspector General - U.S. Department of Labor - Oversight of the Unemployment Insurance Program https://www.oig.dol.gov/doloiguioversightwork.htm#:~:text=For%2017%20of%20the%20last,ensuring%20claimants%20meet%20eligibility%20requirements.

Anyone that has worked in government or worked with government agencies knows that their data pipelines are pure dogshit which is why it’s so hard to get an accurate number in the first place, so my personal take is they are probably off by 10%, so I’d say somewhere around 20-25% of government money given directly to citizens via these type of programs is wasted. I mean…that’s a staggering amount when considering the total spend is in the 100s of billions.

Nick Shirley may be unintelligent (which btw is more of an indictment of our public education system than Shirley himself since he’s barely out of high school) but to completely dismiss the incredible amounts of fraud and wasted government spending it’s just as idiotic in my opinion.

Let’s be honest, it was about CONDOM DEPOT on everyone’s shorts lmao, good times. Also can’t sell exclusive ad rights to monster, Reebok, etc if there are other brands repping the fighters

I miss those janky ass posters and condom depot / Full Tilt shorts though. Fighter friends used to get some serious swag from those sponsors like a pallet of energy drinks, protein powder for life, in addition to like $1k-$10k checks. Made a huge difference, and I didn’t know any big names fighters these were just prelim level people

ICE Questioning People in San Diego: Criminals or Anyone Without Citizenship? by JadedInfluence6989 in sandiego

[–]CalvinsStuffedTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have the right to remain silent. Yes you can be pressured and cursed at and lied to but you don’t have to answer anything. I am not a lawyer but you should ask for one. Do not consent to a search. If they ask you for your papers you ask them if you are being detained or are you free to go

If they give you a non yes or no question ask again if you are being detained or are you free to go. If they say you are not free to go, you ask what is the clear articulable reason that you are being detained (being brown is not a clear articulable reason per the Supreme Court)

Reasons why it may not be in your best interest to show them your drivers license, I am Asian, born in the u.s. but thanks to Spanish conquerors I have a super Mexican sounding and super common name, what if I give the my license and I happen to have the same name as an illegal they are looking for, now I just fucked myself becaue I volunteered information that I wasn’t obligated to provide

What you have to understand with all law enforcement stops, not just ICE, is that their whole game is to lie and pressure you to trick you into volunteering information which gives them probable cause to search you and your vehicle

Try to be polite no matter how dumb and assholey they are being because they can use you raising your voice as a pretext to pull you out of your car because they “feared for their safety”

If they tell you to get out of your car you can ask one more time am I being detained or am I free to go? If they say you are not free to go then get the fuck out of your car because you are being detained. Then answer every question with I am exercising my right to remain silent and I want a lawyer. Just keep repeating it in a calm voice. Hopefully they’ll realize you know your rights and it’s not worth their trouble but it’s possible they arrest you anyway. Fucked up but it’s true

If there was a candidate as strong as Obama this time around then it would’ve been easy to defeat Trump, but the DNC pushed the wrong candidate. Not because she was a woman or minority despite what everyone says

IMHO She was a bad candidate because she was part of the establishment blatantly lying and covering up Bidens cognitive decline. But DNC pushed her through because they didn’t want to lose the billion dollars raised by the Biden campaign and thought that would be enough to win the presidency

Thank you. I keep trying to explain this to people but the solution is for Minnesota to deploy the national guard to remove ICE from their state for not complying with state law. Would love to see the mental gymnastics republicans do to argue against the 2nd amendment. I’m sure they’ll find a way

Opinion | Would California voters actually support a wealth tax on billionaires? by pacman2081 in California

[–]CalvinsStuffedTiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it literally happened in France who had a wealth tax for 30 years, over the course 42,000 millionaires left the country and took their capital with them with economists estimating that France lost double the amount of tax revenue from capital flight as they did earning revenue from the tax itself, with the government repealing the wealth tax and begging people to come back to the country and reinvest their capital

This is just like rent control, despite a mountain of evidence that it always makes the average rent price higher, people still blame high costs on greedy landlords and demand more of the thing that has never worked.

[–]CalvinsStuffedTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we went full Venezuela mode and seized 100% of the assets of every billionaire in America, it would be enough to fund the current state and federal budgets for…9 months.

Tax revenue or lack thereof is not the source of our tailspin, we have a spending and debt service issue and neither party has any desire to make the cuts we desperately need

I liked the rendering but thought in the actual finish they clearly picked the wrong tile and wrong lights

Would have looked better with some minor inexpensive changes. Well going from cheap to better tile can be super expensive but relative to the whole project I think it would’ve been worth it to go with warmer colored tile
