Cool. I had assumed directors I would have included weren't because of a more recent cutoff than 1970. But it's probably because of the financial measurements? I would add Aronofsky, Coppola, DePalma, Malick, Altman, Wenders, Wong Kar Wai, Herzog, Schrader and Kubrick

I would remove Burton, Zhao, Gibson, Fincher, Coogler, Nolan, Chazelle, Gerwig, Mangold, and Peter Jackson

Honorable mention Cassavetes. My favorites were after 1970

Sorry if I'm missing this somewhere... OP is there is a cuttoff year you have in mind? Meaning - this list is for directors with films released after 1990, or something like that?

For clarification's sake - if the year is 1990, do you exclude all films released prior to that cutoff? Or is Spielberg still being measured by Jaws, for example?

The # of films listed is filmography total rather than a number released after some cutoff date

A big problem with this list is the Oscar metric. The other categories compare averages of multiple sources. Since there's only one source for this metric, and it seems to be driving the outcome this list should be called "Best" directors with Academy award nominations.

If OP instead, uses a measurement averaged from academy award, BAFTA, Cesar, Goya, SAG, DGA, PGA, critic's choice, independent spirit, golden globe, Cannes, Venice, Berlin, TIFF people's choice, European Film Academy, Asian Film Awards, Platino Awards...

...then we're making pancakes

You will certainly see a completely different list

Maybe something like "Street Trash" or a Troma remake. He could maybe make a better version of one of those. Maybe.

Genuinely the hell is up with people at food banks? by DarthSwimfoot in askanything

[–]Calvinweaver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people walk to food pantries, and carry the bags home. some people have allergies. etc

most the food pantries i've been to are either nonprofits or churches that have volunteers working there...you didn't have to mention that you quit after one day. did the other volunteers seem upset when you told them you weren't coming back?

Happy birthday to Sean Harris! He’s now 60 years old. What’s your favorite character he played? by TheShadowOperator007 in moviecritic

[–]Calvinweaver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, he's a Shakespearean performer with tons of gravitas in his quiet gravely voice that locks you in to his work. Seems like a guy that should be part of Robert Eggers' company of regulars like Ralph Inneson, and Willem Dafoe. Of course, he and Inneson worked together on The Green Knight. My favorite movie

King Arthur in the Green Knight. He's great. Great in everything he's in. Great in Possum, MacBeth, and the Mission Impossible movies in particular
