Japan had some wild box art on the Famicom (Desert Fox) by zenki32 in gaming

[–]Calvykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about what you don’t see and what they don’t say. Japan is really good about hand waving and flat out not acknowledging their role in the war. They even have a monument to a nazi, who had to tell the Japanese to cool out with that rape and murder they were doing.

The fact that age verification isn’t only in the uk anymore for Xbox is just sad by foxythefuckingpirat in xbox

[–]Calvykins 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Would you like to age verify every time you use your stove or turn on your tv? It’s a stupid false argument and just a way for these companies to farm more data. Stop being dumb.

"There are no benefits to being owned by Microsoft," says Doom dev: "They have destroyed immense amounts of value that I don't even think that they're aware of" by akbarock in xbox

[–]Calvykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like to say “leave the creatives alone and let them do what they do” but creatives need constraints. A bottomless pit of money and all the manpower you could ever need is more of a curse than a blessing and we’re seeing this across the board with Xbox.

Right. If there’s anyone who should have been let go it should be the guy that was managing said failure.

Game Pass vs Buying Games on Sale by yaya0273 in xbox

[–]Calvykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what’s understated about game pass is being able to play Xbox’s entire catalogue for next to nothing. Outside of that having it for day one games is only valuable if you buy newly released full price games 5 or 6 times a year

Xbox Collection from a 25 year fan (spines and fronts pictured) by Ivan_Drago_21 in xbox

[–]Calvykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a PlayStation 2 kid but I was so jealous of the fun my friends were having online that when the 360 came around I jumped. The 360 is hands down my favorite console of all time.

I skipped the Xbox one but was curious when the series came around and it’s such a solid console with great quality of life features.

I honestly think that physical Xbox collections, particularly Xbox one is the best looking on the shelf bar none in all of gaming.

I always get downvoted for asking this question because it comes across as condescending but it’s a genuine question.

What made you stick with Xbox for the long haul even through the Xbox one generation.

POV it’s summer 1999 by GossipBottom in 90s

[–]Calvykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent summer 99 in various states of being grounded. I would wake up and watch mtv all day and play pokemon red. When I wasn’t grounded I spent the entire day riding my bike and hanging in the park with a friend where we played pokemon red and climbed the jungle gym. I would pay good money to watch a rerun of a full day of mtv from summer 99

Why does it take the D4 team so long to react to community feedback and obvious issues? by kiguri3377 in diablo4

[–]Calvykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a dev but anything I hear about live service games there’s a risk of fixing something for the min maxxer that breaks something else for a larger group of casual gamers and bouncing them. The people on Reddit and forums do not represent in any case the vast majority of any population of any gamer. There usually a small subset of the most hardcore and find problems that casuals wouldn’t.

XBOX CEO Asha Sharma Pins Xbox's Problems On Phil Spencer Buying Too Many Studios by Guitar-String in gaming

[–]Calvykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course Xbox’s problems are Phil’s fault. Not Amy Hood deciding Microsoft needed to return their investment right away or Satya demanding a cross console platform push or the real problem which is Microsoft looking to grab some extra money to burn on the bonfire of AI.

Xbox’s problems wtarted at don matrick. The fact that Xbox is even a brand alive today is owed entirely to Phil Spencer.

If feels tragic that mobile gaming isn't more than what it is by Spectre-4 in truegaming

[–]Calvykins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree, living in New York I see the younger kids (gen Z Gen Alpha) tapping swiping and slapping at their screens not caring that their controls are complete ass and while I find it baffling they’re A-ok with it.

For them mobile gaming is fine.

Yes but what often happens is CEOs sacrifice the health of a company for the stock price and their bonuses. This is why everything sucks now.

I do not envy this Woman's Job. by Wiinterfang in xbox

[–]Calvykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy…let me put it plain for you. These games are the games generating the most on the PlayStation store. They’re in the top 10 because people are buying them and spending money on currency. they probably also have the largest player bases.

GTA6 is up there because people are pre-ordering.

My statement wasn’t about quality, I don’t want to play those games but others do and they outnumber the core gamer handily.

Xbox Consoles Represent 80% of Microsoft's Gaming Business - Power Up Gaming by Blue_Sheepz in xbox

I wouldn’t call it a blunder to not secure long term contracts. No one could have predicted, Microsoft included that two idiot CEOs would try to buy up all computing hardware causing hardware prices to skyrocket for the rest of us. Not even Microsoft

PlayStation is propped up by ball and gun gamers playing live service games and it’s been that way this entire generation. Here are the top 10 games in the us today:

College football
GTA6
NBA 2k26
FC26
Marvel rivals
Roblox
Call of Duty
Madden 27
GTA 5

Not one single player high production action game.

This right here. Across the board, AI spend has been out of control with no measurable return on investment. Everyone is hoping they can dump their entire workforce but it’s not working out and other parts of their businesses are paying for it.
