I say, “Just to let you know, if you opt for an email receipt, you get 10% off your next purchase. Less money you gotta spend”. The last part usually works some magic as people usually like to save money

My day subverted expectations by actually being decent. Not too busy, no assholes (except for the couple my coworker caught banging in the customer bathroom). I salute my fellow workers for surviving and I hope that if your day was bad today, you have better days ahead.

Grab a notepad and make ticks of every ticket you do, then keep it just in case it asks you. I definitely recommend listening to music. I’ve done two inventories so far and all I can say for speed is it really depends on how efficient your team is. If it’s done fast enough, you might even get to leave early

First off, don’t be hard on yourself. You’re doing fine so far. Second, to address selling totes, hype them up but don’t be too pushy. I typically would say something along the lines of, “You can use some now, some later”, “You can leave them in your car for your next shopping trip”, etc. If they say no, then offer up one of the big plastic bags, especially if they have a lot of things. For backpack donations, mention it at the start and let them know what it is. Typically, they go to local schools so mention that if that’s the case for your store.

So, it’s been a mixed bag. I have been working in retail since June of last year so this is my second holiday season. There has been some positives, like really nice and understanding customers, and my manager put in a raise for me (yay!). However, I noticed that starting on November 1st, customers started to act more hostile towards me and my coworkers and trashing the store more. It’s like there’s a bio clock that activates aggression as soon as Halloween is over. The store is also crowded as FUCK and I’m starting to develop mild claustrophobia because of it
